Build week, 3rd of 2022. Would be the week starting January 17th.

Which leaves me in a weird position, my car entered production the 14th and finished the 20th ?.
it’s still speculation anyway so don’t sweat it.

I would expect dealer / garage applied updates to be road tested rather than by the owner.

Case in point - Porsche has not pushed anything of substance OTA. I wonder what their rationale is.
you think the manufacturer has no ability to road test an update because they install in OTA. that makes no sense at all. again, the method of delivery has nothing to do with the qa/test process.

dealer installed updates happen all the time without road test. they simply look at install completion success, same can be done with OTA script.

Nice to know my $140k electric Porsche is out of date after 6 months but a Tesla for 1/3 the price is still current even after several years
nice to know that you can always sell your Porsche and buy any other car out there.

don’t be a victim. take action! the quicker you do the quicker you can enjoy driving a constantly modern car instead of an out of date Porsche.

btw, i had a chance to drive a really outdated Carrera GT. over 16 years old! not constantly modern like a Tesla Oh, the horror!

my point idnt that I prefer a Tesla or another car, it’s that the whole point of e-cars is that if the hardware stays the same, there should be no reason why they can’t stay current from a software perspective aside from Porsche not caring that 2021 and 2020 models were using a beta PCM

My sentiment exactly, someone earlier said software is not free or whatever...but I believe the profit from my MY2020 taycan made it in part possible for the new software so shouldn't I be able to enjoy that too? I'm not asking for new ultrasonic sensors or a new hardwire or whatever for free, just update the software so I can get Spotify jeez.

The people who buy electric cars on a whole are more tech inclined so to see Porsche not follow Tesla in upgrading software is a bit disappointing

You say I should sell my car and buy a Tesla, maybe I will depending how this pans out...Lucid is looking very good and I'm willing to bet they will update the OS for all cars as long as they have compatible hardware.

on the old model S, you can pay $1500 and they will give you a new screen, instrument cluster and a new computer thats faster and more capable. can update a 2013 car to a current software. imagine that porsche!

These car manufacturers work differently. The optimize costs on cent basis for what the department responsible for purchasing equipment knows is needed now. It could also have been, that they couldn't get improved hardware in time.

But in general their mindset is not yet at a place for being able to ship the car with hardware that is able to get software updates for say >4 years. (Except maybe navigation data)

Tesla is now shipping also different hardware than they did in the beginning, but as fas as I know they also retrofit some components in previous models, e.g. central compute unit needed for their "autonomous driving". Tesla also constantly changes hardware, not only when a new model year is due, they skipped that model year thing completely and just do it anytime they need the feel for it. And most of these updates can't and won't be retrofitted.

So for the topic in this thread, the central compute unit for user interaction and navigation, Tesla is far ahead.

Well, people seem to already know the update isn’t coming for older Taycans. Please link the source…

Just wait for an official statement instead of already talking about how to sell your outdated cars.

The thing is, I don’t expect Porsche to push any major updates like Tesla who regularly improve performance, efficiency and other driving characteristics.

I do however expect a €250000 car marketed to have OTA updates and that hasn’t even shipped yet to get coloured icons and Spotify to the infotainment system. It’s absolutely absurd that this is even a question that they need to investigate and still hasn’t provided any info on.

My 7 year old Model S is still getting the same updates that a car built yesterday is getting.

If it’s a matter of hardware changes, the least the should do is offer a paid upgrade path to keep the car up to date.

I didn't buy my Taycan for the PCM; I brought it because of how it looked and how it drives. Yes, I want the bugs fixed - but these new features will not change my driving enjoyment. And isn't the reason why we buy a Porsche because we actually want to drive something that has a "soul"?? The PCM doesn't change my engagement with the driving of this car.....if having the latest software tech in the dashboard is an issue - maybe you brought the wrong car.

The only update I want is one that makes basic stuff, ie things that worked perfectly in my 8 year old Porsche, to work in my brand new Porsche. Like when I press Favorites they actually come up without recycling through menus three times. And the Bose settings don’t reset every third time I drive the car. Simple stuff.

Love the car and it’s definitely a keeper, but the failure to even execute basic stuff is surprising.
Totally agree; my comment was aimed at those worrying about not having color or didnt get the Spotify update etc. Absolutely I expect the functions I have to work without issue - and for the infotainment system, I see no reason why that can't be delivered OTA as it doesnt impact any of the safety systems.

Like everyone else here I'll be livid if they don't continue to push updates to fix the core functionality of PCM to MY20 onwards.

However I read the official statements a bit different to some. To me it read as zero commitment to add new functionality to older models. This is to be expected for a traditional car manufacturer, their business model is predicated on each MY having something I little bit better to talk about.

The Taycan is definitely a bridging car for their future vision and I don't think anyone (apart from an uninformed sales rep or two) has said that MY20 onwards wouldn't be receiving core PCM updates. Some of us are just jumping the gun and conflating features with fixes.

I may stand corrected in 6 months :)
