After getting home from a trip in which I spent 40 minutes attempting to remove the EA CCS plug from my Taycan, I scrolled through 46 pages in the charging category of this forum to read tips and advice for what to do when a Taycan will not release the CCS plug after charging has stopped.

The forum advice I found is compiled in the attached pdf document.

My wife and I were finally freed from EA station #1 in Fishers, Indiana, by using Tip # 4 (turn off the car, lock it, go away for 10 minutes, unlock the car, remove plug). @daveo4EV called this "what Porsche considers correct".

Had I known that beforehand, I could have saved 40 minutes of struggle, plus the feeling of humiliation I felt by being watched pulling on the plug all the time by the guy in the Chevy Bolt parked next to me. :headbang:

After we were freed, the EA rep I spoke to advised always turning the vehicle off prior to attempting to remove the plug. (That is Tip #3.)

p.s. Yes, all the time I had the doors unlocked when I tried to pull the plug out.

EDIT on Sep 2 2022: Revised attachment to add tip 19

From the home screen In the charging settings there is an option to release the connector when charging stops. May want to check if that option is set in your car. With that option set, stopping the charging session at the charger control panel should unlock the connector. Finally there is a rip cord that can be pulled to release the connector. See this vid:
Hope this helps.

The very first time I charged the plug got stuck - quite an introduction!

I have seen it subsequently fairly often and have found that releasing via the PCM (Charging | ....) is highly reliable. hint: act fairly quickly since it sometimes relocks itself (in my experience)(if you still have a problem with releasing after using the PCM, review the PCM (why wife's job is to watch the settings after I unlock to be sure it does not re-lock !)

Thanks for your reply. I knew about that PCM option. But, when I went to charging settings, that option was not available. From what I have read since, I believe the PCM option is only active while the car is being charged. I had already stopped charging at the EA station console, the EA screen said "unplug".
Next time at a fast charger I will look for that option and see when it appears and disappears.

If you stop charging at the EA console and then cannot release the plug, is the PCM (Charging ...) option still displayed? I looked for it there and could not find it active, but by that time I had stopped charging at the EA console.
Edit: I just checked that PCM option. It says it "stops charging process and temporarily unlocks the plug." I'll tell my wife to keep her eye on it!

From Home Screen go to Charging and click the three dots on the bottom screen bottom right. The upper screen will appear. The top option is available if charging. If not charging it will be greyed out. Hope this helps.

Was this the EA at Meijer? I was planning to use it in the next week so thanks for the heads up!

Yes, it was at Meijer. The 150kw charging station was excellent. Good charging rate even starting at 45% SOC. Much nicer Meijer than the ones I have seen in Ohio. Because the listing on MyPorsche app did not show the Fishers, IN, site had Plug & Charge capability, I started the session with MyPorsche app. (In call after my car was free, EA rep said the site had Plug & Charge. It's relatively new site; I didn't try P&C). I would definitely use the site again. Short walk to Meijer entrance, clean restrooms.

I don't think my locked plug had anything to do with EA. It has to do with the "approved Porsche CCS plug unlock protocol". See link for item 4 in attachment to first post above.

Later in my trip I charged at EA site on SE side of Indianapolis. At that one I turned off the car, then stopped charge on EA console, pressed button at charger port which was solid white, and presto, the light above the plug came on and I removed it. (WalMart restroom filthy.)

This helps keep us Taycan drivers on our toes! (Just in case, try not to park next to another car on your passenger side unless you want to entertain them.)

@Tooney I like this as a concept, but not necessarily as an implementation. It would be better as an FAQ or something that could have lots of answers curated in a searchable way that doesn’t mix in all of the other unnecessary comments.

Like a GTK created by users.

@Administrator is it possible to add an FAQ here for that purpose?

@Jhenson29 I wanted to read and compile tips forum users had shared for dealing with CCS charge plug not releasing.

During the past two years a bunch of tips have been posted, but I see no "current best approach" for either preventing or responding to the problem.

This was the first time I've had trouble removing the CCS plug. I've only done DC fast charging fewer than a dozen times. That will change soon.

I understand. And what you’ve done is better than what we had, which was searching through random posts looking for information. ?

I’m just suggesting that we can do more.?

I ran into something similar a couple of times, with the door unlocked. I end up releasing the plug by hitting the unlock button on the key fob. Weird. wife was sitting in car, car was running, I got out, and stopped charging, would not release. Till I press unlock button on key fob. Happened twice, 1st time, took a while to figure out.

@ithinkmac Thanks for sharing tip to hit unlock button. I added it to the list.

I read online that hitting the unlock button, or repeatedly pressing unlock on fob, is action that drivers of other EV brands - VW ID EVs, I think - use when dealing with stuck charging plugs.

Thanks for sharing. I've only had the car a couple weeks and have only used EA charging twice but each time it always gave me a little trouble releasing the plug. I had to attempt multiple times to remove the plug, pressing the button on my car, wiggling the charger, trying again and it usually released after a few attempts. This was all in just a span of a minute so not a big deal but it just doesn't seem to be a smooth process, and certainly gives me some worry that it may get stuck for a longer period at some point in the future.
