I am new to the car, so I set a profile and a timer to charge to 85% for when I leave home, and work.
At home, this seems to work fine, but the first time I use the car wo go to the office, it didnt work, somehow the charge expects the charging to start immediately and since it didnt, it cancelled the session altogether.

So simple Q: how to charge immediately but to 85% only? Is there a way to do that?

Yes there is.

Uncheck all Timers and just set your profile to charge to 85%. Make sure this is set to location independent. Screen shots from my app below.

Brilliant thanks in advance Peter - this is very clear....

Who knows, at some point in the distant future, this could be very useful for when I might possibly get my Taycan at some stage - perhaps - god willing - inshallah...... ;)

thank you but sorry for the stupid Q then, because the general profile lets me set the MINIMUM charge, not the maximum? does it change behavior when you have it to 85%? what will it prevent to go 100%

General profile just takes you to the minimum charge, then stops. If you hit the direct charge button (on the lower screen), then it will fill you up to the brim.
So if you like to keep your car at 85% as a rule then use the general profile, and when a longer journey is planned set a timer to fill you to 100% to finish just before you set off. Better for the battery etc.

If you use a public DC charger (assuming you don't have one at home), then it ignores the timers/profiles etc and always fills you up to 100%.

While I seldom use public chargers, I find charging to 100% when using a high speed DC charger a pain. It would be nice to still have the 85% charge set no matter what kind of charger you're using. Last weekend I used an EA charger for the first time in several months, and while charging I went to pickup takeout. Long line and by the time I was back to the car, the charge was 95%.

General profile set to 85% (or whatever minimum you set) will stop at 85% (or whatever minimum you set, no other profiles or timers active). Applicable only for home (AC) charging.

ok thank you all, I am trying that....realized that our work charger only pushes 5.2kw so unlikely it will break 85% today

If you think it through it is at the end of the day.

I'm slightly biased having 22 months exposure to this but I never thought it was difficult / unintuitive - spent a lot of time reading the manual.

agree and to the best part, the car is 'understandable' without using it....

It wasn't 2 years ago when us early adopters were going through the educational pain so that this forum is as informative as it has become ?

I agree, it is not very intuitive but there is some logic to this as I see it.

You know that the car will start charging immediately when you plug it in with a minimum set to 25%. According to Porsche that is so that it is gentle on the battery and also prepares the car if you need to depart sooner than charging start has been set.

Once it has charged to the minimum level set between 25 to 100%, the car will stop at the set level and await further instructions. That is the “minimum” as described by Porsche.

The further instructions could then be to charge to a set level for departure in the morning or next afternoon or next week. Whatever you set with a Timer. It could also be controlled by their Home Energy Manager to only charge when there is enough Solar Power available etc. Then it will try to charge to the set level if there is enough time.

So if you treat it as

Profile: start charging when plugged in to set level and stop and wait gor further instructions.
Timer: Charge to Timer set level at time chosen and start charging when it calculates that enough time is available yo reach Timer set charging level.

If no timer is set the car will start charging when plugged in and then stop for further instructions, but there is none and thus the level set is the charge level achieved ( minimum, which has become the maximum?).

This could of course have been done in a far easier way, but the main thing is that it works. I have had no problems with this with either PMCC or a Tesla Wall connector either at home or as destination charger at hotels etc.
