If you don’t use CarPlay how do you know if there is police on the route? You know, in case you need their help with anything ;)

I know the feeling but it's not Porsche specific. Had the same thing in my BMW. For me Apple carplay is still valuable because I use Waze and can't get my head around the navigation in the native spoticy app...
For me it makes part of my "pre flight check".
Radio comes on...
Carplay takes over... silence...
Switch back to DAB with favorite on left of screen
Select radio
Switch back to Apple carplay with favorite on left of screen...

Sometimes... It just works as design but I can't put my finger on it...

I know your frustrations but for me it has become a habit so I live with it...

At least until now since the software update CarPlay works every time immediately if I contact my phone via cable. I dont use wireless charging anyway, as it heats up the phone ridiculously.

In Finland Waze is irreplaceable. It show all traffic cameras and polices and also traffic jams and other problems/ dangers. People use it a lot, so its very up to date always. I noticed in Germany it doesn't work almost at all but than again in Austria it works much better.

I love CarPlay. Hopefully it will work this well also in the future. I use native navigation abroad but its not enough. On top of that you have to use common sense ?.

Can you simply use waze directly on the phone if car play is disabled?

Waze doesn't integrate with the head up display
Right, but you can either use both simultaneously (see my earlier posts in this thread) or you can use native on the car and listen to alerts on your phone.

I have my steering wheel diamond button set to move on from car play to favourites. A single press of this moves me back to the radio when car play connects. Not perfect, but works. Obviously no good if you use that button for something else

I think if you have waze open in the back ground on CarPlay (just on, not doing route guidance) and are using the porsche satnav, waze will still shout out alerts via the car speakers.

Waze is absolutely invaluable here for cop detection, pothole warnings, random furniture in road warnings, etc. Navigation is secondary, though it does help in areas where you have many ways to get from highway A to highway B, and there's traffic.

True. But I am also able to get both systems actively routing at the same time. It can be picky at times, and I know that some here cannot seem to make it work, but as you will see in my pictures, I seem to be able to do so.

On a side note, I find this picture amusing because it shows the difference between GPS speed, which I assume is more accurate and Porsche indicated speed, which I assume is conservative. Here, the speed limit is 25 mph, GPS says I am going 26 mph (as shown by Waze) and Porsche says I am going 28 mph. The conservatism seems to increase with speed, so you may think you are speeding a bit at higher speeds but actually may not be.

I am jealous that you can get this to work!

I have tried now mny times nd followed your routine to set this up. But No Luck!. If I try it, the Nav will shut down and jus use Waze, and vice versa.

But disconnecting Apple CarPlay and having Waze running on the phone works. I have observed however that Waze seem yo have more problems that way to get an accurate GPS signal. Perhaps because of no support from the car and the glass insulation etc??

It's worth mentioning that when a phone is using CarPlay, it's being fed its location lat/lng from the car's GPS receiver – its not using the phone's built-in one.

This is why – for example – CarPlay navigation apps continue to work inside tunnels – as the car's navigation system will start to estimate location from the turns of the road wheels and steering wheel inputs – at least for a few minutes.

Obviously – as you have shown – the dashboard speed is calculated from wheel rotations and not calculated from GPS location changes.

I am unsure if the wheel speed is fed into the CarPlay data feed, but looks like that app you are using – either way – uses changes in location per second to estimate speed.

I'm sorry to hear that. I think you have a '20, right? I frequently hear people talking about issues they are having that I am just not experiencing with my '22, so I wonder whether subtle changes (maybe different chips or software) may make a difference. In any event, I would not give up entirely, try in different spots, because it is pretty cool when you get it going. And yes, some days it is fussy for me at the beginning, but I usually am able to make it work.
