Serious question. If I don’t really use it for anything, do I need it at all?

The reason I ask is that I’m still on Porsche Connect, which I don’t use for anything, and was trying to set up MyPorsche in advance of the Connect shutdown. Of course rather than just transferring my car over, it wants me to upload my drivers license and my registration. Fuck that.

So I ask, is there anything whatsoever on the app that is required in connection with the car?

I still use the Connect app to manage charge profiles, and check battery SOC. I’m waiting until the last moment to switch to the new app.

I use the Porsche app all the time to precool/heat, check SOC, efficiency, tire pressure, etc. Sometimes I use it to double check to make sure I locked the car, or unlock when someone needs to get something from it. Finally, just looked up the manual last night on charging. So it’s useful to me.

I don’t do any of that stuff. I’m just wondering if there are any functions on it that are required for the car. I can’t see anything like that, but want to make sure before I just delete both of the apps.

Precooling/heating is super useful from the app. I also check SoC occasionally.

If you have a My Porsche account, you should be able to just log in with that right?

I don't think there are any necessary functions in the app for a 2022 (or any year other than 2020).

For 2020, you have to start your complimentary Electrify America sessions from the My Porsche app. For all other years, you have plug and charge.

You MAY need the app if Plug & Charge does not work. If anything, it would be a backup in such a case. Of course, you could always pay for a normal EA session.

I charge at home and on the off chance I needed a charge out I’d just pay. But plug and charge is set on the PCM. Don’t think I’d need the app for that.

Not all chargers support plug and charge. THe ones that don't need to be started by the app.

Might as well take advantage of the 3 years of free charging with the car, right?

What public charger would need the app to work?

Note I could care less about free charges.

I’m retiring in a few weeks and I’m planning on tossing my cell phone into the junk drawer.

This is the imagery you brought to my head with this post. I don’t mean this in a bad way, it’s just what came to mind.
