My car in NYC (in front of our kids apartment building). Don't worry, be happy. We make this visit weekly and have never had a problem.
Luck of the draw. Finding a spot in the west village and happens to be directly in front of where you want to park?! That's really good luck. I have yet to street park my car in Manhattan. Avoiding it like it's the vid.

I've witnessed way too many people getting out of Ubers, taxis and the like just swing the door open. Sometimes into cars, sometimes into bicyclists. I'm more like the op than I realized.

We go Sunday mornings when the parking is free (and easy). They live at 6th and Manetta.

That's a pretty good parallel parking job. Did you do it or the computer? ;)

Was just in NYC with my family for the first time and visited Bleaker St.
John’s Pizzeria on Bleaker straight up some of the best I’ve ever had! ?
Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread! Back to the subject matter though, having seen several areas of Manhattan I’m pretty sure I’d never park on any of those streets. NYC is it’s own animal for sure and driving much less parking is at your own risk. Lol ?

I've never had a problem parking in Manhattan apart from needing to leave gloveboxes open and trunk covers off. And I used to live in the NYU Bleecker street dorms pre-Giuliani back when Manhattan was much "spicier"

My sister went to NYU and lived in the village well into her work years. Absolute blast partying and crashing at her pad.

We always enjoy going into NYC, especially the Village area. John's and Joes for pizza, Faicco's for heros and Russ and Daughter for smoked salmon. I can't get anything like this where I live. Plus, of course, the grand kids makes it even more special.

And to go back to the original question, I'm careful but not overly cautious. Its a car, after all.

I’ve had my 22 RWD for 6 months now and LOVE IT…..BUT a significant downside is that I feel continuously and perhaps excessively overly cautious with it. Case in point I went to the supermarket today (parking far/isolated as always) in a good northern Cal neighborhood. I received a work phone call while parking and spoke for about 35 minutes in the car. Several individuals walking by checked my car out as per usual but at least 2 individuals gave me less than pleasant looks. My concern was enough that I left and later returned to the supermarket in my wife’s car. Do I need to just relax or is this degree of caution normal/appropriate? I feel like cougar in top gun 1. I’m holding on too tight.
I felt the same way and then a Ram pickup ran into the drivers door and did damage all the back. Initial estimate at $20k and counting. Waiting for parts and thinking months with diminished value. I might be done with high end cars. Cars are a utility. Wish it had been totaled.

Ouch. I understand where you’re coming from. Hope all turns out ok.
