I’ll start with sorry If you all thought it was coming?

I wanted to know if anybody had an idea if it’s possible with 2023 Taycan. That is if I ever get the new car? Just thinking if we get power cuts. . . . I’m spending over £120,000 and will have to get a home backup battery! I bet the old technology we are getting only has unidirectional energy transfer.

I could contact the dealership, but we all know that’s a waste of time. And if I do, I’ll only get angry at the lack of information.

one final point. Anybody know if the settings I have in my 4S can be transferred to the new car?

You realise that even if it did offer battery to grid you are going to have to have the infrastructure in your house to be able to use it? Your house is not just going to be able to use a car to power the heating system.

Doesn't make sense to me to put additional battery wear on a £100K+ (luxury) car when you could do the same (and better) with a dedicated, designed-in solution for a fraction of the cost. I wouldn't do it personally.

I’ve got solar at home. Just never bothered with a storage battery. . .

I was only thinking of keeping the freezers running and a multitude of pumps for fish ponds and tropical fish. Most lighting is LED, so we run around 1kW as the quiescent power. Not that much really.

even if you have solar you need more residential equipment - namely an auto cutoff swtich to isolate your home from the grid if you're running on battery…

I would say there is zero chance 2023 EV's from Porsche support using the car as a power source as it requires also a new EVSE that can allow power to flow both directions.

2027 or beyond would be the first time I would suggest this would be a supported feature in a Porsche model year vehicle.

good luck.

Is there a reason you opted out of the storage batteries? I have 3 Powerwalls hooked to my solar panels, in fact they are powering my house right now due to a severe thunderstorm. I live in a state (Texas) that has a remarkably unreliable power grid, the back up batteries have been wonderful. I would think installing batteries would cost around the same as putting in the equipment that would allow a BEV to do bi-directional charging, and right now there are only a few that do that (I know the Ford Lightning can, and I believe the Kia/Hyundai twins can as well).

looking at the link above, I think it will be cheaper just to get battery storage.

When I looked into it the solar it was to assist car charging, but having a single battery storage only delivered 3kW. I wasn’t sure then if it was worth spending the money as we are being payed for generation of electricity this end.

I am hoping and waiting for this. My plan is to have ~20kw worth of home battery for daily load leveling with solar, and to be able to use an electric car as an add-on battery should there be a very long power outage.
