@CrossTComingSoon could you name one of the specific sites where you experienced high speeds? then we can deduce that all other units like that are in fact 800v and not 400v as I thought.

Sure. It's near Stafford Ionity (which was a shxt show yesterday evening). The irony of getting full 115kw charge from this empty charger Vs waiting in a queue for likely 90kw from the Ionity.

I didn't even know the 125kw chargers might only go at 50kw if wrong voltage.

Thanks! So to summarise, these 120kw units that @CrossTComingSoon and I were using must be 800v, so all Taycans should be able to benefit from the full speed (assuming other factors favourable).

I'll try some more Instavolts and see how that goes, this time with warm battery and hopefully no other cars charging at the same time.

This is from "my vehicle" technical details on my Porsche website. Can't find anywhere on phone app

I have hardly had to use public chargers yet, but reading some posts on here is there a rule of thumb regarding pre heating. My assumption is that after 60 miles or so the battery will be warm enough without pre heating?

I don’t think there is a rule of thumb, so many variables, best to look in the display at battery temp. I didn’t 45 miles earlier this week and battery temp was only 5 degrees at the destination. Unless you drive very hard with lots of regen it doesn’t warm much in winter, and very difficult to drive aggressively when the roads are slippy anyway

How the competition warm up a deeply frozen battery…

You need the battery to be around 32C and remember preheat is really only relevant for DC charging.

Set the target EVSE of >= 50kW in your NAV and providing the distance is suitable then preheat will occur.

Driving normally at this time of won't see much battery temp above 19C given the ambient.

If not done so all ready, display the battery temp in the right most display of the cockpit (set in PCM).

This
The opposite is true.

DC 50kW - 175kW are 400v, anything higher is 800v
This isn’t always correct. There is an MFG charger near me that is 120kW. I plugged in to make sure my DC charging works and the display showed the power and voltage. I cant remember the exact figure but it was around 800V. I have the 150kW booster so it is not relevant to me, but the situation is not clear and doesn’t help anyone without the booster.

I standby my original comment that all uk chargers above 50kw are 800v in the U.K. except for the old Tesla ones. The 150kw booster is only useful for some in Europe

It is a generalisation but I'd wager most are 400v up to and including 150 kW but realistically anything above this will be 800v.

MFG are on a mission to rollout 150kW and 350kW EVSEs. Perhaps new ones will be 800v rated

Perhaps the one you used was 150kW and because you have the DC booster the handshake negotiated during charging initiation selected 800v from the car which was then displayed on the EVSE. This is a total guess on my part (but I don't see 120kW units listed on their website).

There is such legacy out there and predates the Taycan and so 400v battery architecture was the 'norm'.

Booster or not becomes irrelevant if you don't have the option. Worst case is that you'll charge at 50kW. At the end of the day one needs to charge.

Sorry but that's plain wrong.

ESB Ireland - 400v 150kW
BP Pulse - 400v 150kW

Any general use Tesla Superchargers 400v 120kW. Some are open to non Tesla owners.

*** Update ***

Used a BP Pulse 150kW EVSE today - 400v - DC booster worked a treat to give me 149kW - 5 mins voltmamd bolt tomadd 35 miles. Perfect!

This is a newly.commissioned EVSE and so 400v is alive and well.
