Looking at Taycan
Country flag
I've been looking at the CT4, CT4S, ST & ST4S for a few months. Finally I think I've got the green light to proceed, so am trying to nail the options down.

Residual value is very important to me, as it's one of the fantastic benefits of a Taycan which is making this viable. Thus ensuring I don't skimp on 'residual options' is important for me. I'm in the UK, so this is designed for that. I already feel over planned budget with this lot, shouldn't have exceeded £95k. Any further advice? Things that aren't needed there? I play to have for around 3 years.

Anyone else have it in Cherry Metallic? Burgundy is my favourite colour and this looks a great match!
http://www.porsche-code.com/PPNYG2I4

Have to
  • Pan roof
  • 4+1 seat
Seem Sensible
  • Battery plus - Standard on CT
  • Park assist with surround
  • Ambient lighting
  • Electric folding mirrors
  • Power steering Plus
  • 150kW DC-DC converter
Wanted
  • Metallic level paint
  • Better wheels than standard - 20" Offroad? On the images the Aero's look not very nice.
  • Roof rails - (Bikes in the future)
  • Bose - I love my music
  • Electric sport sound - No brainer?
  • Sports Chrono pack (with Heated wheel) - Dials!
Would be good
  • Air suspension - I don't hands down need this - but is standard on CT
  • Privacy glass - I might be able to drop this.
  • 14 way seats - I'm tall and the 8 way don't line up my neck/head nice enough.
  • Comfort access - I assume without this it still is keyless start, but I'd have to press the button to unlock it?
  • Rear wheel steer - Is this really essential?
  • Adaptive cruise control (for future upgrade) - Is this the one to allow future upgrades to Innodrive?

Any further advice?

30% depreciation over 3 years is likely and maybe slightly more.

4S is more desirable and ST is better looking (if you don't like plastic.

PB+ a must if not standard.

Bose is worth it.

Rear Axle Steering with Power Steering Plus is worth it. Not essential. Power Steering Plus at a minimum. I have RAS and would always option it.

Privacy glass - most people expect it.

Surround view a must.

Extended leather preferred.

Matrix lights excellent

Comfort Access can be added later. Auto unlocking of doors and powering up of the car plus gesture opening boot or hatch.

ACC skip and Innodrive of limited benefit. If you spend your time on traffic jams then maybe. Problematic on UK roads due to dependencies outwith Porsche's control.

14 way with memory is great but I doubt it would address your issue unless you've tried both. The seat design is essentially the same.

Sports sound skip - it's awful and I never use it.

Air a must.

Auto dimming rear view mirror.
- doh. I forgot that on my £100k build.

I like sports sound. I use it especially to alert pedestrians I’m nearby.

If tou want to carry bike, get the bike preparation. Works very well.

I love the colour and would pick it again.

I’ve got slate grey interior.. i would highly recommend that, it looks great with the cherry.

Not a fan of the black handles.. in my view, not a feature that needs to be highlighted.

Personally, I don’t like the pano roof and would rather spend the money on nicer wheels.

If residuals are important, I imagine a lesser optioned 4S would prove to be a better bet.

Pretty happy with that spec. I like the colour but have not seen in the metal. Personally I would omit black handles but add power port, burgundy clock and seat belt, full leather. I have listened to sport sound twice and then never used. ACC really good on motorway trips but occasional issues in town with late braking. I do not have RAS (but do have PSP, seems to be on every Taycan I have ever seen) and cope but everyone seems to rate highly.

Rear Axle Steer is nice to have, but by no means essential (especially if you're used to similar wheelbase cars).

There is already a pedestrian warning hum (by law).

ESS is in addition and audible inside the car and outside with a deeper tone.

Bike prep is a good idea if you are prepared to pay £1600+ for the carrier itself which I suspect most aren't.

I don't think that the legislated sound is noticeable enough against the ambient noise of typical urban environments. I'm not a fan of ESS, this one is more my style (as demonstrated, goes perfectly with Frozen Blue)-

Perhaps not but its legal - that's the main thing - not sure you'd hear anything over the racket of an Ice Cream van!

Have to
  • Pan roof - Yes. I have. Nice and light on the inside but car looks better from outside without. Double bubble roof on saloon in bright colour particularly nice - Good for resale
  • 4+1 seat - If you have more than 2 kids go for it. I have 2 kids so didn't bother as it looks asymmetrical and you cant have 18way stitch pattern - Good for resale
Seem Sensible
  • Battery plus - Standard on CT - Yes, a bargain at £4k - Good for resale
  • Park assist with surround - I don't have it and don't miss it but many others rate it a must have, I am magically able to manoevre my Taycan without surround or RAS - Witchcraft!
  • Ambient lighting - Yuk, cheap 70s discotheque lighting or 90s rave glow stick, take yr pick
  • Electric folding mirrors - I have these to tell I have locked my car
  • Power steering Plus - I didn't factory order, you can FoD - didn't need with 20s on 4S - I did FoD to get them as I felt needed with the 21s
  • 150kW DC-DC converter - I have bought this twice and have not used it on one single occasion in 3 years
Wanted
  • Metallic level paint - I splashed out on special - Crayon twice, boring I know!
  • Better wheels than standard - 20" Offroad? On the images the Aero's look not very nice. - Offroad 20s are the best compromise of looks and function in entire Taycan range - 19s (and some 20s) look like wheel trims, I have 21s but the only advantage is looks
  • Roof rails - (Bikes in the future) - Why not, you can fit roof bars, you have to get glass roof with these which you are doing anyway
  • Bose - I love my music - I think Bose is just louder - I am happy with base stereo
  • Electric sport sound - I never have it on, its just irritating - Silence is golden
  • Sports Chrono pack (with Heated wheel) - Dials! - Functionality is great, visually horrible - Get the compass or the design clock so you dont have to watch the pointless second hand going round and round and round, My carbuncle clock is permanently switched off with the second hand parked at 12 as every stopwatch should be, and non-illuminated - Steering wheel upgrade is nice apart from the mode nob which looks after market
Would be good
  • Air suspension - I don't hands down need this - but is standard on CT - A must have for me, hunker down in range mode - lift over bumps - 2.5 tonne vehicles need air suspension - base suspension is very good - air suspension is better
  • Privacy glass - I might be able to drop this. - I dont like gangster glass, again I am in the minority
  • 14 way seats - I'm tall and the 8 way don't line up my neck/head nice enough. - I am tall and skinny and I LOVE the 18 ways but had no problem with 8 way, never had 14s
  • Comfort access - I assume without this it still is keyless start, but I'd have to press the button to unlock it? - You can FoD this, far from essential and then you wouldnt need Faraday pouches
  • Rear wheel steer - Is this really essential? - NO, the best thing about RAS is Power Steering plus comes as standard with it
  • Adaptive cruise control (for future upgrade) - Is this the one to allow future upgrades to Innodrive? - I LOVE this, I don't always want to be 'ON IT' when driving. The combo of ACC and Active Lane Keeping is a joy when you want to chill on a long journey, I did Fod 3 months free Innodrive and ALK, I now pay for ALK and dropped Innodrive

Any further advice? - Have fun back on the configurator

Thanks everyone for very helpful opinions and advice. It has helped focus my mind. I really want 4wd and do prefer the ST look, but that rules out the ST without going to the ST4S, that might be too big a stretch ££. I'll go to the dealer this weekend (Nottingham) and see some of these in person, especially the seats.

@NickCT4S Thanks for sharing the pictures, love it!

I've specced around 8k of options on the CT4, that sounds decently conservative and brings it in at around £92k. If I look at CT4S & ST4S I'm a whisker under £98k! This is already a bit of a stretch...

These have made the cut for now:
  • Fixed Panaramic Roof
  • ParkAssist including Surround View
  • Air Suspension
  • Metallic Paint
  • Wheels - 19-Inch Taycan S Aero Wheels - Do these look nicer in person? Maybe I need the 20-Inch Offroad Design Wheels
  • Bose Surround Sound System
  • Sports Chrono
  • 4+1 Seats
  • Ambient Lighting - I like it. ?
  • Electric Folding Mirrors
  • Roof Rails - I know I won't stretch to the Porsche Bike Carrier, so this route is preferable.
  • Mirrors auto-dimming - How bad is it without?
  • Steering wheel heating (with Chrono)
  • Driver Memory Package
  • Luggage compartment liner, rear
  • Power Steering Plus
  • 150k on board
Not made the cut yet
  • Adaptive Cruise Control - I'm really on the fence about this one, I use it all the time in my Golf GTI.
I like these ideas, they add some style beyond the plain, for not too much ££ - but on the fence, design isn't my strength!
  • Burgundy Clock
  • Burgundy Seat Belt
Think I'll have to drop - even these small ones start to add up.
  • Privacy Glass
  • Porsche Electric Sport Sound
  • 14 Way seats
  • All Weather Mats x 4
Despite the great things said, these 2 are just going to push my build too high.
  • Rear Wheel steering
  • Matrix headlights - Am I right in thinking the standard lights are still very good?

Driver mem pack good option with 8 ways but I would take 14 ways due to yr previous comments and no Bose. Your not going to enjoy the louder music if yr not comfortable and you now dont need Driver Mem Pack
  • Wheels - 19-Inch Taycan S Aero Wheels - Do these look nicer in person? Maybe I need the 20-Inch Offroad Design Wheels
You can paint them to make them look better - there are threads on this somewhere
The 19s are super efficient but go for the 20s.
(You definitely dont need power steering + with 19s. Its only £200 but you could use it elsewhere?)
  • Mirrors auto-dimming - How bad is it without?
Dreadful, the manual dipping tag under the rear view mirror could be from a Morris Marina - this is a must have - they do work very well too
  • Adaptive Cruise Control - I'm really on the fence about this one, I use it all the time in my Golf GTI.
You wont regret it if you do ANY long journeys and you have answered yr own question in the same sentence
  • Matrix headlights - Am I right in thinking the standard lights are still very good?
PDLS on base a bit poor - PDLS+ is standard on 4S and good/better with some more adaptivity and Main Beam Assist - Matrix are SUPERB but expensive

  • Ambient Light?ing - I like it. - Knock yourself out!!

Matrix v1 (what is on offer today) is fantastic but Matrix v2 (coming in future model years) is on a different level again - 16,000 LEDS vs 84.

This is one of the things I've not been able to find. The subtle differences that there between the CT4 & CT4S. The Porsche 'Compare' doesn't go to that detail.

Also, see the picture attached. What is the least expensive option to remove the greyness from the skirts etc? Ideally black.
