My sales rep told me the price increase - at least partly - might be by making (high margin) options into standard equipment and adjusting the base price accordingly.
As my MY24 order is pretty much loaded with at least the tech options I don’t worry too much.
High margin options are not the tech options. Think PMCC, color choices, more wheels to choose from, plastic design packages, colored cupholder inserts, etc. (add them up, there is $20K or more in "free" options). Did you order the leather key fob for $1,200? Imagine it's now a forced option (free but MSRP went up by $1,200).

Particularly true for China. Makes no sense! And if something breaks, takes months to get parts to get it fixed.
But the prestige that comes with driving a Porsche in China, can't be that. (sarcasm)
Chinese EV's are superior because of the backup camera? Come on!

Have you ever sat in a Chinese EV? Recently I took an Uber in a GAC AION Y. Nice little SUV kind of car. Driver said: He always has the window open, because he gets headaches. Lot's of his colleagues with the same car complain about feeling sick and throwing up.

Also took a few rides in a BYD HAN. Sound and looks nice, but really quite Chinese when it comes to exterior and interior design.

Then you sit in a brand new ET5 NIO. Looks nice (I guess German car designer), but inside it feels like a desperate attempt to copy T. Looks so empty and boring. Then you look at the options:
NONE - Wait, you look at the price, it is without the battery. So there is one option, you either lease it (~200US per month), or you buy it. Suddenly the EV is as expensive as a fully loaded Mercedes, but still has no options.

Nevertheless, there is one huge advantage Chinese makers have. Their home market is fully EV ready. Chargers are EVERYWHERE. That makes it easier to develop new models and produce volumes to be profitable with low prices.
why did they feel like throwing up?

I get it as a passenger in EV taxi's in China. Cuz they punch the accelerator like retards.

The only 'chinese' EV that I've driven was the Polestar 2. Polestar 3 is coming soon and its a cool EV.

Other EV's are not superior because of a backup camera but when you spend 200k on a car these details matter, for me at least. Also to listen good music you have to spend 6k.

Now Porsche will raise prices, no problem but bring up better tech.
I am with you 100%, that Porsche, in fact all German brands, need to up their game when it comes to tech (battery, self driving, etc), and I mean big time. But that does not mean the Chinese brands are so advanced. They might be better in terms of battery tech and range, but nothing more.

When do the model year price and spec changes get announced? I have my deposit in and expect my allocation in Q3 based on what I have been told so that would likely be MY24.

Looking at YouTube the videos showing model year changes and announcing the price rises were around this time last year. I did notice the configurator on the UK site has had a total redesign this past week but spec and prices are still the same just now.

I was told the official announcement will be end of March.

Prestige is relative. My neighbor is driving his kid to school everyday in a RR SUV. :whew:

Bad chemicals released from cheap parts in the car. That 'new car' smell is bad for your health

We have a blinged-out RR Cullinan (covered with what looks like Swarovski crystals, every single last part of the car) in our garage.
4-door RR's are meant to be sat in and chauffeured around town, not actually driven. Not to mention the bling that will make any rapper's teeth grills look elementary.

I gasp every time I pass it.

Post pics!!

That said, I think the RR is a fantastic driving experience. It is not a driver's car in the sense of handling / road feel, but it makes driving a very pleasurable and luxurious experience. Many folks don't want to feel every pothole or need to turn on a dime.

Rolls-Royce ended up failing and being sold to BMW.
And, consequently, they became more reliable, AND of course depreciated like a BMW in the used market. I suppose the upside is that when a part fails most of it is just an interchangeable part from a 7 series.

This is commonplace for most of the bailed out brands though...Aston, Lambo. They all have things like a marker lamp from their own brand for $500 bucks, crossed reference part to a common ford or VW part - $2 bucks!

Wow. I am more surprised that the person would park this in a garage where other owners could ding it. Or maybe they own the two spaces next to it to.
it actually looks well executed at second glance. Conceptually it’s on the verge of ghetto rich vibe, though not surprised given there is little to no old money in China.

I don’t know, I would never want that kind of attention.

I do think it depends what the customer wants.
Certainly plenty of people would like a car that largely drives itself and is in many ways like a mobile phone but some don't.

I have owned cars for decades that certainly could not be updated over the internet and were none the worse for it.

I enjoy driving and am a nervous passenger even with a skilled driver, any of the almost automatic car over-riding the driver scare me witless - far worse than driving with an incompetant driver, and I find driving a car myself, with only a hands free phone to receive urgent calls, the most relaxing.

The only "automation" I find OK, because I know what to expect and don't get scary surprises, is standard cruise control.

So, so called advances in "tech" are of little interest to me, and whilst I know my taste is unusual I'd be surprised if it were unique.

The crystals protect the car from such mundane things....:CWL:
Imagine they are diamonds, hardest rock on earth.

whoever attempts to ding that door is in for a rude surprise haha. Then take a few off the car as payment for the damage caused by the diamonds.
