What is a battery tender extension wire? Is that different from an orange extension cord?
Battery Tender has extension cables with the quick connectors in case the distance from the wall outlet for the Battery Tender conditioner/trickle charger to the car is longer than the cable on the device. For instance in my situation I used the 12' extension cable.

For those of you using a trickle charger for the 12V battery, can you report how much energy is going into the battery? If the charger itself doesn't report kWh charged, maybe throw a kill-a-watt or similar on the charger.

Can you plug the battery tender into an extension cord (rather than the wall outlet) and plug the extension cord into the wall socket - thus eliminating the need to purchase another item (I already have good extension cords galore)?

Check the support pages on the Battery Tender site. For many applications, you can use an extension cord provided it is not too long and is the proper gauge. For one of my other Porsches, I have a different Battery Tender device that is plugged into a heavy duty extension cord. If I recall the paperwork that comes with the Battery Tender also provides information regarding the use of extension cords. Worst case if you need one of the Battery Tender extension cables you can get one later from their website or Amazon. The cable that comes with the device is a fairly decent length too.

Given all the concern regarding the 12V battery and electrical system failures, and per the recommendation of another user, I decided to start a poll. I would like our European counterparts to answer as well. I don't have my Taycan yet but it is scheduled to be delivered in late Oct and I am getting worried with all the issues people have been having with their 12V battery and their Taycan essentially becoming nonfunctional. Hopefully this will give us a better perspective on what percentage of owners here have actually had the problem and then see if it's related to the method of charging or their charger itself.
Can you please change the computation on this thread to break out two different groups - owners and non-owners? Computing percentages across owners and non-owners on different questions is not useful.

Statistically, 83% of owners haven't had a problem (not 47%), and 87% of non-owners seem worried about it (which they shouldn't be).

On this last point, I've been following the threads about battery issues and the only real issue I've read about is from @louv and he seems to have traced it to a software issue that occurs when accessing the Profile or Timer settings in the Porsche from the Porsche Connect app on his mobile phone WHILE the car is connected to a charger. While I think it is practical to buy a 12V charger for the LiFePO4 battery under the front hood, and to learn how to open the hood if the battery dies, I'm certainly not worried about trickle charging every night, and I'm not babysitting the battery.

I've read that Porsche reserves 12% of the 800V battery "uncharged" so I'm also not in a panic about over charging and having a Profile or Timer implemented that limits the charge to 85%. Basically I connect my Taycan to the charger every 2-3 days; it charges to 100%; and enjoy driving the car - the best I've ever driven.

Once again, just to be clear: I've changed many timers and/or charging settings through the app but so far my 12V battery is still fine.
In fact, I do all my charging schedules through the app. :)

How long does your car go unused AFTER you make these changes?

It could very well be that you are mitigating the issue by driving the car relatively soon (next day) after making the changes. Maybe the battery does not have time to deplete... Its possible the car has to sit for a couple of days AFTER the changes are made?

About three days.

I do not see any issue with that as long as you mean the 12 volt charger. I have a roll with 25 meter cable to maintain charge on a car that is standing away fro my garage. No issues whatsoever and have done that refresh of the battery every two months. The overall power is something like 60 watts! On 240 volt it is not much current.

I agree that comparing owners and non-owners isn't helpful. I initially made the thread with just Yes, No, and I don't know. I added the other 2 in later and while I agree with you that the non-owners throw off the statistics, I also wanted to know how many people who were still waiting for theirs were concerned about this. So I added the other 2. It's a fairly simple math equation to get the percentage or owners who have this problem (as you did already). The website wont let me put 2 polls in this thread for owners and non-owners so I had to just throw them all together in 1.

Frankly, I'm not interested in people who are worried.
I'm only interested how much owners are affected by this.
I'll put up a poll on Facebook cuz the participation is much higher over there.
I'll post the results here.

I remember that

That is one difference ok! The other difference is the charging connectors? Wonder if the communication protocol is involved in any way? Speculations!
What does the 12 control I haven’t has issues 2 months in

Given the self-selecting nature of people who A) read forums and B) post on them, there's nothing particularly interesting about the "statistics" of a poll like this, as the sample is hideously biased.

If you are worried about the issue, try not using an app on a car. :p

This is ultimately what I’ve decided. I’ll-do what Louv said and just use the app for monitoring charging. I’ll set all my profiles from within the car and just leave it until this is all sorted out. I’m still super excited about the car coming. I realize that any forum poll isn’t going to be a randomized controlled trial or a representative sample. I just wanted an estimation and thus far the poll results are reassuring that the majority of owners haven’t had a problem.
