My Taycan 4s cross turismo is now 2 years in my possession. Bought it new 2 years ago, now it is running out of warranty. Porsche offers an extended warranty for 1, 2 or 3 years for 1577, 2653 and 3858 euro's.
What do you think? Is it wise to prolong the warranty period. Any suggestions?

I extended my warranty for 3yrs when the car was in for its first service. I have had some warranty issues the cost of which would have made me wince if I had to pay. The vent servos (over engineered) stuck and the windscreen and dashboard all had to come out just for two servos. As I am keeping the car it was a no brainer for me.

Contemplating this as well. I have a 3k credit from Porsche for the delays on my Taycan useable in the Porsche shop, but also for extended warranty (can get 2 years extension). Mine is a MY22 with about 1 year warranty left. Extending would give me more or less 3 years warranty again.

I’m not sure about Europe, but in the US you can buy the Porsche extended warranty from any dealer and it applies to work done at any Porsche location. Prices vary widely. I bought an 8 year, 60k warranty for under $3600 after receiving quotes as high as $5900 for the same thing. Hopefully you can shop around. Those prices seem higher than they should be. Historically, extended warranties have been priced to include huge profit margins for both the dealer and the manufacturer.

Hello! Did you price shop with just other Porsche dealers or did you go to third parties (non Porsche dealers) such as Premier Auto Protect (https://premierautoprotect.com/) or Fidelity? Wondering if there’s any trade offs to consider.

I shopped Porsche exclusively for their Protection Plan. I didn't want to add the uncertainty of a third party warranty's fine print or a dispute between them and Porsche voiding an otherwise legitimate claim. I estimated my potential savings going with a non-Porsche contract at around 20% which just wasn't worth it to me. Back in the day I worked for an insurance company that backed a couple of third party warranty programs and the "fine print exclusions" made those programs a ton of money, but left the auto owner high and dry.

A word about extended warranties: Over your lifetime of owning cars the cost of extended warranties will be significantly greater than having paid for warranty related services. If this were not true, car companies and insurance companies would not make money on extended warranties.

I know it is scary to think you may pay for a $10,000 service invoice but add up the cost of the extended warranties over time and relate this to the one or two cases of expensive repairs over your lifetime.

This is true on the aggregate. You have to consider your individual circumstances. You could assume someone who buys a Porsche can go out of pocket 4-5 figures and therefore wouldn't need a warranty, but that's not necessarily true.

Also consider piece of mind (IMHO: priceless). Over a large enough sample size, your comment holds, but even over an entire lifetime of one person, the sample size isn't necessarily statistically significant enough (based on various assumptions of course).

Very true. Much more cost effective to manage your cash flow such that unexpected costs can be dealt with out of pocket when/if they arise.

I will extend when the time comes. Having the extended warranty = nothing will go wrong with the car.... not having it and something is bound to go wrong ?
Whilst most repairs are affordable there are some Taycan repairs are seriously expensive. There is a thread on here about replacing an electronic motor... from memory the cost would have been 60k to 70k if not covered by warranty.

Interesting debate comparing value of "peace of mind" to "actual cost of repairs without warranty." But we are also in uncharted territory somewhat with this particular vehicle, so I would lean toward the extended warranty if priced right.

I like the idea of being able to bring my vehicle into the shop without the anxiety of a service rep totaling up charges that are going to make my heart skip a beat.

I have put a call into my local dealership to get a quote since I am approaching my two year anniversary. Happy to share what I find out.

I'm a big fan of the Porsche extended warranty. I used to shop previously owned Panamera and had them qualified for Porsche Approved each time. Never regretted the peace of mind and the predictible expense plan it gives. It saved my ass a couple of time plus it allows you to "consume" your Porsche without unnecessary precaution or anxiety.

I'm a bit confused. In the U.S. is the Porsche extended warranty covering anything that can go wrong with the car such as electrical system failure(s), power steering failing, heater failing, etc.?

Is there a way to extend the front-to-back 4-year, 50,000 mile warranty provide by Porsche? If not, some other insurer? I'm thinking of keeping this car longer due to depreciation and the fact it's totally satisfactory for my needs.
