I wish my Taycan had another 50 to 100 miles of range (310-360), but I have no clue why you need 641 miles of range.

Downsides that I see include longer charging times, raw materials required, and of course road damage caused by such a heavy car.

Don’t get me wrong. I do see a place for long range in areas like commercial trucking. I just don’t see it in performance luxury vehicles.
Any big ICE SUV has the same weight. Your Taycan has 2.380 kg my Zeekr 2350 kg.

Once you experience long distance traveling without charging, your Taycan is suddenly reduced to a city car.

For daily use, 200mi is plenty of range. For long trips, it isn't so much the range as it is lack of reliable and pervasive DC charging. That appears to be improving in US and Europe. Considering the number of gas stations, except for a couple of places in Nevada or Montana, you could easily live with an ICE car with 150mi range and go anywhere.
100%
The whole problem of EV range could be fixed by adequate infrastructure and cars all charging as fast as Taycans.

I get that even this probably isn't much good in huge countries with major destinations a very long distance apart, like USA and Australia. I am not sure I would own an EV if I lived in either of those countries.

The reason I bought my Taycan was the way it drove and it wasn't a SUV but had 4 doors for occasional passenger use and space for my dog.
There was actually no alternative on sale in the UK which suited my requirements and if I hadn't bought the Taycan I probably wouldn't have bothered to replace my car at all.

Range and straight line long distance cruising are only a minute portion of my usage so of very low priority. I almost never go in a city.

My Taycan was just delivered to the dealership, which is exciting, but I read that Porsche is coming out with a battery with 800 mile range (that will revolutionize the industry). Should I refuse to buy the car I ordered and wait until the new battery is released? I feel as if I'm buying a car that will be obsolete right after I buy it. How could I possibly resell such a car at a decent price?https://carbuzz.com/news/porsche-evs-coming-with-800-mile-range-and-15-minute-recharge-time
Minimum 5 year or more wait. Live your life while working to double or triple your disposable income by then!

Thank you for all your replies. I think I was freaking out for no good reason. I don't even need that much range. Also, I read: "So if we're talking about mass production, I would say 2030 is an optimistic suggestion for when the first solid-state batteries will begin to be purchasable on scale by consumers," McNulty said. "And those first vehicles really will be testbed systems that will be really expensive. They'll be high-performance, but I think the idea of those vehicles would be to get used to the technology, and I don't think there'll be wanting to build significant quantities of those until they're sort of mastered what the technology is like in the natural EV application."
McNulty says 2032 to 2035 is a more realistic estimate for when we might see solid-state-battery EVs in mass production.https://www.motortrend.com/features/solid-state-ev-car-batteries-challenges/

I (thankfully) don’t have to travel for work. But there is no.fucking.way I’d travel somewhere - near or far - in anything other than my Taycan at this point, unless it’s just completely impractical (like an AlCan, or Tierra del Fuego). All I need to do is allocate a bit more time, and have a bit more patience. I’d go almost anywhere in my 911, but the Taycan will get there with more cargo (if needed), less noise, and more comfort (including sleeping).

Up to 1,000 miles I’d rather drive than fly - don’t underestimate the time cost of driving to the airport, parking, TSAing, idling and the reverse at the other end - it’s pretty much a day. (Though being served drinks while traveling is not devoid of merit.)

And for those 1k mile trips, it was a pleasant discovery to realize that more frequent stops (bev vs ice) are actually better; you can go farther if you’re rested, and that’s all that matters for long trips.

If you think about this the other way round, how many Taycan owners have actually run out of charge and had to be recovered by the roadside?

From reading the forums, I'm guessing very close to zero? So why the panic about range especially as all cars depreciate?
That says nothing about whether range is sufficient in the Taycan. It just means drivers have the ability to find a charger before they run out of power.

So.. range is sufficient?
Yes, I would say so. I do regular 800km journeys at night, so of course I appreciate being in my ICE cars where I don't have to stop, especially with two sleeping children in the back. But having to stop twice to charge doesn't mean the Taycan's range is insufficient.

The point above was that people not being stranded at the side of the road is no indication of anything, other than people can charge plan correctly.

Sorry to state the obvious... I think we all knew the range of the Taycan before buying the car.

We may or may not wish the range to be different... but it is what we (knowingly) purchased.

I must be nice to have more than one sports car. What do you do for a living? Which car do you prefer?

The taycan is my daily, so they serve very different purposes. Something visceral and noisy like a Ferrari is a good way to enjoy the ICE experience… tho I would say on the local back roads the taycan with PDCC, RWS, etc is probably much faster than the old Ferrari. I work a normal corporate job, just very lucky to have had a good career trajectory.

Oh man, that would never fly for me. I sometimes have drive directly into customers plants and I catch enough flack with the Macan (I more often have a service van). The 911 would be completely out of the question (even if it could carry all of my tools; which it can’t) and a Ferrari of any type would be unfathomable.
