Yeah that ain’t gonna happen in our lifetime. Foolish to think it would.
Not sure how old you are but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a reliable charging infrastructure within the next 30-40 years (assuming no unexpected lifetime-altering issues pop up for me ?).

Will happen in only eight months if Tesla allows CCS1 access for VAG to those ~12,000 V3 250kW Superchargers.
Otherwise, three to four years is probably realistic.

I forced myself to sit through this so you don't have to.

She didn't like it because:
  1. It didn't have enough bass.
  2. Sometimes it would put itself in park at stoplights.
  3. She lives in an apartment and found EA to be broken too much.
With that level of personal presentation in the screen capture I had been expecting a highly technical comparison to Model S, EQS, i7, and Air, complete with track time and also suspension design inspection up on a lift.
Or not…

I get there’s no guarantee. But seeing such a drastic reduction in price makes me wary. Also, I saw a cpo 2020 turbo with about 5,000km and 5 (1,2,3,4,5!) previous owners. That raised a red flag and made me question the whole cpo thing. Yeah it’s a one off, but still really weird
I thought that means it’s such a hot in-demand car that no single owner is able to hold onto it very long.
Just like they say about dating for guys in ski resort towns that have a small percentage of unmarried young women, You don’t lose your girlfriend, you lose your turn.

Yeah I have no problem charging at home, but recently started venturing out and driving around to visit friends, stopping at EA chargers once in a while if needed.

That experience is pretty bad. I was living in a bubble only charging at home.
It’s like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Home charging is so easy and even kind of fun, almost a sense of (pun unintended) empowerment (even if it’s coming from the grid, which is still is with our home solar, given net metering).
Public CCS1 DCFC though, requires some planning and also praying!

I recommend you do some thread surfing to see how others are approaching the purchase of a used Taycan.

I like this thread by @Jonathan S. on his purchase of a 4CT after scoping it out at several locations across the US. Check out others like this one from @Swifts on his tradeoff analysis (new vs. used).
I thought you were going to warn against going down that rabbit hole!

In all seriousness though, I too was surprised at how little some of the used 4CT had been driven. But then again, a new Porsche of over $100k is hardly a wisely considered financial decision, so buyers tempted by that might be tempted for the next bright shiny object to appear on the market.
Plus the marketing of the charging speed might have suckered in many buyers unaware of the reality of the CCS1 DCFC charging network leading to buyer’s remorse.

The used 4CT market is relatively small. I found only sixty something across the entire lower 48, scouring every possible source. Used 4S CT must be even smaller. Road Runner though found a trucker for only about $1,700 from WA to MA, so don’t turn down a listing because of location.

Don’t expect any totally bonkers deals though, which to be only for Turbo and TS models, plus RWD at the other end of the spectrum.
My price was 29% off original 2022 MSRP, or 33% off current MSRP. But that included lots of cosmetic options that have almost zero resale value.

I bought a Turbo S with 150 miles on it and $90,000 off MSRP.
That's a crazy deal. I plan to buy a RWD and do see deals but not even close to what you scored. Care to share some tips how to get a good deal that can help us future Taycan buyers? Appreciate your help in advance.

There's simply far more room for discounts at the top of the model price range. You're not going to find anything on a percentage basis that is as steeply discounted as a Turbo S on an RWD.

I just set an alert for Turbo S's on Autotrader and you'll get several new cars every day. You'll find some good deals.

You think that opening up Teslas network would magically make getting a charge ‘as easy as going to a gas station’ for all EV owners? Even Tesla charging isn’t as easy as going to the gas station, much less if the huge number of non Tesla EVs being sold every year suddenly start using their network.

There are four Tesla Supercharger locations within ten miles of my house. There are 52 gas stations.

Just to be clear. It was a damaged/repaired car he bought as a used car. It was not a new car. Additionally he didn’t say when he bought it, which matters on a ‘21, given ‘24s are already arriving. Finally, remember to take every ‘I got x deal’ on the Internet with a big grain of salt.

Sorry, my fault, I did not mean to imply that.
Even road tripping a Tesla requires significantly more planning and downtime than with any ICE.
But at least all that planning would result in successful planning. And the planning would not involve researching which EA locations have a majority of their chargers coming close to their kW ratings.

I disagree. Put a destination into the nav on a Tesla, and it will figure out what is needed to get you there.

Try that in any other EV and it will make ludicrous stupid suggestions for level 2 AC chargers, ruining your route.

I’m not sure we’re disagreeing on anything?
Tesla planning is relatively easy and the actual charging is reliable.
Other EV planning requires, among other additional steps, researching the PlugShare checkins and Google reviews to assess the relatives probability of successfully charging within a somewhat reasonable timeframe. And then the actual charging experience is highly variable.
ICE refueling planning is … almost as rare as waiting to refuel.

Not out here where the radio station call letters start with 'K'.

That being said, the last time I ran an ICE out of fuel was in the middle of nowhere in North Carolina off I-40 in the Smoky Mountains, and we had to rustle some dude named Zeke out of bed because he was the only guy in town who knew how to bleed air out of diesel fuel lines.
