I’m hearing rumours that production of new Taycans is being halted for 3 to 4 months and that the facelift will be delayed. Supposedly to try and clear the glut of new and used cars building up at dealerships.

Not an authoritative source but this YouTube Video mentions the alleged halt and goes on to cite the owner’s recent experience of getting his failed heater replaced in the shortest possible time.

I think it's probably true plus not sure if this is coincidental with the launch of the Macan EV and sharing production facilities (re-tooling).for 2024 launch.

This is sort of aligned to what I am hearing from an allocation perspective in a Canada. Long story short, my car was delivered with slightly different spec - asked for the next allocation and dealer said the next one likely April. Called another dealer who said all allocations have stopped for Taycan until Spring 2024.

As some above mentioned, probably agree with some combination of levelling out used inventory and maybe retooling for other models.

Automakers don’t halt production unless there is a quality issue or a shortage of parts. It’s just too expensive.
Porsche halts production of models all the time. Literally, every year. Anytime there is a model version change, there is usually a gap between cessation of the old version and starting production on the new one.

So this is potentially “good news” for us waiting on the new (facelifted??) model?

And for us, shopping a 2nd hand Taycan
In theory, used prices will be driven up with the intended increase in demand. Though I'm not sure that will be significant in the UK, with much of the demand being from business buyers who only get incentives on new vehicles.

Let's see how will that turn out. Even more vehicles are poured into the market and they are announcing a new model / facelift. I bet it will go down another 10-20%.

I don't know the truth behind the rumours, but VW, Mercedes, Ford and presumably others are being reported (at least on the internet, by sources with dubious credentials) as planning to halt EV- and in some cases non-EV- production due to unexpectedly low demand.

Not sure about that - maybe slow down as opposed to halt. There is certainly a lot of pressure in the system right now discouraging purchasing. Even on the financing side. In the UK now underwriters are asking for proof of earnings which include tax returns and 3 months "non-redacted" bank statements. Can you imagine that...Talk about highly intrusive - I am sure that in itself is discouraging many from the finance route, which in turn means people walk out the door as opposed to spending their own money.

:) The annual mid-summer halt in deliveries is very different than a late year halt in production. One is part of the plan and is built into the cost of the product, the other erodes volumes, sales, and profits.
