One of the things that attracted me to the Taycan was the linearity of the accelerator versus my RS5. I would prefer a dedicated button or paddle.

But given the choice between the current situation of overboost tied to LC or calling it up with the "gas" pedal, give me the pedal! :like:

I don’t see a problem in holding a button. If I’m not mistaken, DRS works the same way
DRS in F1 is disabled if the driver lets off the gas or brakes. I believe it is press to open and press again to close, not hold to keep enabled.

One of my favorite recent radio exchanges was between Max and his engineer when the Red Bull was having rear flap issues. Max yelling that he's pressing the DRS button over and over and nothing's happening. The engineer calmly responds to press it only once.

I thought the closing is automatic, at the end of the DRS zone; that is, the driver has no control over how long it stays open.

I don't know if it closes at a certain GPS location or time, but during a tech talk they specifically said lifting or braking will close the flap, regardless of how long it's been active

I meant 911 GT3RS. Well, it was my impression from the gt7 game. I’m not saying it’s the same in the real life as I have never driven one

you are all wrong : i can read Range mode, with Air Co on auto, while listening to ... that i can’t read.
Porsche Taycan "Pre-series Taycan" prototype (presumably Turbo GT model-to-come) beats Turbo S around Nurburgring by 26 seconds (and Model S Plaid by 18 sec)! IMG_0887

Guys, I'm placing some bait...

I like exposed carbon fiber on my vehicle with dark interior and glass roof.
That sounds good, but I’d do it on an SUV which is superior in nearly every way to a station wagon.

If the accelerator hits the floor the driver wants more power. Overboost should not be absolute time limited, but usage limited. If it can provide an extra 100KW for 8 seconds, it should provide extra 50KW to 16 seconds. or 80 seconds of 10KW boost. Porsche could adapt the throttle mapping to available power. In the video, the paddle might not have disengaged the boost directly, but possibly kicked in some regen for a second which would have cancelled the overboost. The time remaining should be assuming current throttle level, so technically it could go up if you're letting off the throttle but still within overboost range.
That strategy would be useless for track but fine, perhaps, on a road.
Far too vague to be properly targeted at the maximum performance.

We shan't wait long. (Though I doubt he takes kindly to the "push to pass" feature - or its era. ?)
DRS came in after I retired and the rules have been adjusted from time to time.
It should automatically shut on lift off or braking, the driver can switch it off too.

I am ambivalent about it. It has good and bad sides.

For the Taycan an analysis of the track based on where the limited time possible for extra power before overheating will give the biggest lap time gain. The only way to make sure it is rationed optimally is either GPS automatic, which is risky, or with driver control which is the most logical choice.

The accelerator will be flat to the floor most of the lap so couldn’t be used.

Agreed that for expert driving you want all aids off and as much manual control as possible, but for the primary use of the Taycan, I'd think most drivers prefer to use aids like traction control and full power available like the power of turbochargers - at the top end of the throttle, without having to enable it separately - perhaps like Audi does this, by having a drive mode setting to extend the power band with overboost which is only reachable for some number of seconds every so many seconds.

Out of curiosity, how would manual boost activation work in an EV? When enabled, car produces max power regardless of throttle setting until time elapses or brake pedal is hit? Or would manual activation just extend the power band - so only activated with high throttle just like in the automatic scenario but with limited availability of a few seconds?
