But Volvo have stopped producing wagons! They are all SUV’s now! No demand for wagons is the reason
It will be low rather than no demand.
I like an estate car and will never have a SUV even if they remain in fashion for a long time.
Toyota UK no longer supply the Prius here because the sales volume was low compared to the C-HR which means we are keeping our existing Prii and are no longer Toyota customers. 18 years of Prius and 40 years of Toyotas has come to an end.

De gustibus..

A bit of plastic cladding doesn't offend me in the least. Stepping down from the Macan to the ST would have been more stressful for me for the rare eventuality I needed the full ground clearance. Given that the difference between CT and ST is really bolt-on parts and software settings, I don't see a reason to object to either's existence.
I think that's my point. The ST should have been the offering and if cladding is needed tick that option on he configurator rather than have two poorly differentiated variants.

When I bought my T4S I came from a Pana ST and asked then about the likelihood of an ST variant - dealer said no, I disagreed and here we are.

Most of the cladding is optional except, unfortunately the wheelarch trim which I dislike too.
Round here the extra 20mm of bump travel is definitely worthwhile too, I also like the compass instead of stopwatch and prefer the CT wheels.

It does seem to me fairly simple to merge ST and CT models by offering a slightly wider choice of options - ride height, cladding and so forth.

Ride height and suspension stiffness are options on other models already.

The whole release schedule for the ST was weird. The GTS ST was released before my CT had even been delivered and the Turbo S ST released shortly after.

What is that wheel and tire setup? I like the meaty sidewalls.
Signature Wheels from Terrance Sig (forum sponsor). SV104 in Gloss Gunmetal. He handled the dimensions for the wheels and recommended the tires, which are...
275/40R-20 MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN PA4 N-SPEC N0(PORSCHE) XL
315/35R-20 MICHELIN PILOT ALPIN PA4 N-SPEC N0(PORSCHE) XL

This is my winter set for here in CO. They fit great and have no rubbing or clearance issues. They are great in the snow and ice, as is the GTS ST. I know the debate wide versus narrow; these work great for me.

@BeagleRott 's story has a stink of dealer making up stories. I've heard some real gems in my life of buying cars. I find dealers make up stuff for one or more of the following reasons:
  1. It's easier to make shit up than actually look it up. People are inherently lazy. If it makes sense in their heads, they will state it as fact. After the first time they said it out loud, they actually believe it (one of human cognitive biases).
  2. They repeat some rumor without any confirmation. Same theory as urban legends spread - easy to spread in bumper sticker format, takes pages (and attention span to read them) to refute it.
  3. They purposefully lie or present incomplete information in order to make a sale or more money. Most commonly this category involved false information about availability, timelines, rarity of models, model capabilities, resale values, future "coming soon" retrrofitable features, incentives (or lack thereof), financing rates, etc.
Perhaps in this case the dealer had a lot of inventory of Taycan sedans, and wanted to discourage a customer from ordering a custom CT by fist having them create a sedan configuration, then presenting the customer with an inventory sedan that is close (either from their inventory, or some another dealer's inventory for which they can trade on of their own inventory cars for). Current CT/ST inventory levels are significantly lower than sedan. Even during the pandemic, CT allocations were a lot more scarce before they merged them - I could have had a sedan almost a year earlier, but waited for the CT.

I’m hoping those salespeople are just as uninformed about the future of CTs as they are about the existence of the ST.

The Panamera sold in far fewer numbers than the Taycan, and they still carry a Sport Turismo in the lineup. It doesn’t make sense to discontinue the wagons in the US, they’re all made to order anyway.
Actually, the Panamera ST has been discontinued for certain with the introduction of the new model.

Yep, and that is worldwide. I wondered whether they were doing that to create more market potential for the Taycan ST though.

In AU and NZ are ST is not even offered, well not currently. That may change with the refreshed Taycan, we'll have to wait and see. It's a shame as the ST would be my choice if it was available here.

Taycan has such a limited use case as a daily driver as it is (high cost, “modest” range and limited space for carrying people and things).
Unless one doesn't have a charger in their garage, how many people need more than 200 miles for a daily driver?

And except for Home Depot runs and large family events, I am surprised that people think it has limited space for a daily driver. I just moved my son from LA back to the Bay Area, and I should have taken a picture of all the stuff I had packed in the car (stuff I didn't want the movers to move, like dishes, computer, TV, monitor, plants and a bunch of stuff we needed to live on after the movers cleared everything else out - blow up mattresses, pillows, blankets.

Obviously a Macan would have been better, but the Taycan was perfectly capable even if this wasn't a typical daily driver event.

Thanks for using some Latin and German now and then!

A favorite from your initial journey report is Elephantenrennen...

I agree that all three causes you've pointed out are possible, and in fact very likely.

As it happens you can find lazy and stupid everywhere. My daughter-in-law was in medical school out East and during orientation they broke up into "get to know you" groups and had to answer some canned questions. One was "what is your favorite animal?"

She said her's was the narwhal (a type of whale), because the males have a single long tusk protruding from their head. A guy in her group said there was no such animal. When she pushed back he said - "I know all the animals." I pity the poor patients who now call him Doctor.

The narwhal would be the equivalent of a "sea horse with long tusk", or a "sea unicorn"; since unicorns do not exist, it follows that sea unicorns do not exist, either, and so narwhals are made-up creatures.

You can't argue with logic.

I pity the poor patients who now call him Doctor.
Or, by his full name, Dr. KnowItAll Animals.

Chacun pour soi!

I just don't like plastic so personal taste and if I could afford / stupid enough to fund a TTSCT I would at least have ended up with gloss black painted cladding....
