We just got Tesla L2 wall chargers for all EV owners at our condo. They work great, but my 85% minimum is not being observed, and it charges up to 100% which I know isn't good for the battery. Is there some other setting I need to enable for this charge limit to be enforced?

Have you looked at the video that was posted here earlier about Charging?

There is some indication that when you only set a minimum charge level and no timer etc, the car will start charging again after- minutes if it is not unplugged. Lot Of discussions on here

The profile basically tells your car to charge immediately to x% (85% in your example). With the timer, if you set y% in the timer, it will charge to y% at the specified time but does NOT stop charging. I.E- if you set the timer to 7:30am to 85%, it will get to 85% at 7:30 but will keep on charging if you don’t unplug.

If you combine the profile and timer, it will charge immediately to x% when you plug in, then stop charging and start again to hit y% by the target timer time. For me, I used a profile of 75%, and a timer for 85% set to some time in 2035. That way it charges to 75% and stops. I lose the preheat functions though (since the time condition won’t be met)

This not my experience, at least charging on 240 at home. I only have the charge profile set, no timer and during the 3 weeks we’ve had the vehicle, it stops at 85% every time and I receive notification from the app that charging is complete. Several times I’ve left it plugged in for hours after it reached 85% (overnight) and it did not start charging again.

You need a timer in conjunction with a profile to control this.

Can you give a more elaborate answer Adrian? I’m having trouble too with the minimum charging and stopping at 85%. My provider of electricity suggested smart charging, but that was no succes. After removing everything in the app and the system of the provider, I’m struggling a bit with the right settings for charging when the electricity is the cheapest. My preference is charging only until 85%. Can I do that with the preferred period in the app in combination with the minimum charging, or only (as you say) in combination with the timer?

And a PhD in Porsche thinking about charging. If this software was developed anywhere else it would be a simple slider. The Taycan charging complexity is nothing more than invoking the inner SAP in Germany.

FFS. Some of these posts…

No, you don’t need a timer for this. I’ve been charging to 85% with just a profile for 2.5 years just fine.

It also doesn’t start charging after a timer completes unless it’s a non-repeating timer. Repeating timers stop at the target charge and wait. With or without a profile.

There is no maximum setting for charge. Just minimum in profile and target in timer.

OP, your displayed settings are correct. You either have a timer for 100%, direct charging selected, or the car is simply not following the instructions. If all other mentioned settings are correct, then try turning the profile off and back on again. Maybe from within the car directly.

What are your preferred times?

You need a timer for this setup regardless.

If your ending preferred time is close to when you would set the timer (e.g. both are around 7am) then you only need a timer. Add a profile if you want either a higher minimum than 25% or if the preferred end time is very different than what you may set a timer for.

@GregN, if you want to limit charge to 85% then use a Timer function only. Profile function has a different purpose, and yes, by design it charges to the setting as soon as possible, then goes past it, which is what is happening to you. This topic has been extensively discussed but your source of how these functions work is in the manual.

No, profiles do not go past the minimum with optimized charging and no HEM.

I need to try this to test it out for curiosity purposes.

My understanding is that if you select Optimized option under Profile, it is not supported in the US, and basically a dead end signal to the Profile to stop at its setting, which is what you are doing to make sure it is not going beyond its setting, however, this is what the OP has selected but it blows past 85% setting and goes to 100%.

I just use a Timer function to limit charging to my preferred 85% limit by my AM departure time of 7am. I have no need for a Profile function fully understanding its benefit of getting to its setting as soon as possible vs. Timer function doing it intelligently and slowly between the plug-in time and target time.

I think we’d get a lot better suggestions if people actually tested the things they say it does. I spent a lot of time testing various scenarios in the beginning to understand how the different settings interact. At one point, I wrote a little app to show what happens with different settings. It’s not up any more though.

Here’s a screenshots of my charging profile settings in case it helps. Like I said in earlier post in this thread, charges to 85% and stops every time.
