Hi,

I’ve got a 2022 CT with approximately 23 000 km on the odotemeter. During the 2 year service, I was told the rear brake pads have been almost worn out and need to be replaced at the cost of approximately 900 EUR.

I questioned whether this is normal for the pads to wear out so soon (no track use or such),, especially in the case of an electric car. The retalier just told me “yes, there have been some other cases too”. And they expect me to pay full price for the replacement.

Anyone else with such experiences?

If I read your car config correctly, you seem to have a RWD car??

If correct, perhaps this is the effect of traction control??

Does your car have Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)?

This feature actively brakes the inside rear wheels when cornering aggressively. That will lead to increased brake wear.

Then it sounds strange yes. My sedan has done nearly 66k km‘s and not much pad wear.

No PTV. However, I was told that the ACC does not use recuperation. So, that might be a culprit. Still, 20 k sounds like an awfully low figure to me. Maybe pads installed in a wrong angle or defective pads? Or maybe this is just a normal cost for a Taycayn.

ACC uses recuperation just as much as you use it when applying the brake pedal. No difference.

There has to be some other reason

900 € for rear brakes pads, are they not the same pads used on Audi Etron gt.
Pads for red calipers are 220€ delivered , silver 475€ delivered finland . Brakes are pretty simple most garages could do it. Why give there more money if you are not happy. Have them changed and monitor.

From time to time I travel through a very steep tunnel, crossing one of our fjords. There is a traffic camera inside so I use ACC to keep the speed limit. I notice that the brake lights are lit all the way to the bottom so been wondering if ACC actually calls on some assistance from the mechanical brakes there… Also, my rear discs are more worn than the front ones.

Anyone seeing the same?

After nearly one year and 7000 miles my discs have hardly any wear:
Front Pad Depth (mm): 10mm Comments: As new
Rear Pad Depth (mm): 8mm Comments: 10% worn

Keto, So have you looked at the pads?

Also, the brake pads have wear sensors. When the pads wear to a low enough point, the sensor will trigger a warning. The warning comes on with 20-30% pad remaining. With 20-30% you have PLENTY of time to get them replaced. Don’t get scammed. And take a look at them yourself to determine if there’s a problem.

The brake lights do light up when ACC needs to reduce speed going downhill. I have seen that when driving at night and also foggy mornings. I have also looked at the power meter at those occasions and seen that the recuperation is active, but nowhere close to the stage where I have noted the physical brakes kicking in.

I therefor do not think the physical brakes are used until absolutely necessary,

I often see the consumption as 0 kWh/km or even negative ( meaning I have more energy in battery compared to when I started) arriving down at the motorway tolls. The height difference is 550 meters, so a lot of energy recuperated over 15 km driving.

My dealer indicated that there is almost no recuperation during the first 500km. This is to conditioning the brake pads. And this will take place each "X" thousant km. This to make sure that the car can always use its brakes when it is really requested. Your problem may then be that this not correctly programmed. You can check this if you car do not recuperate when you hit the breaks. But renewing your brakes after 20kkm is very odd. Certainly for an EV and even for an ICT.
