I'm a little confused by the "recommended" Porsche Charging Service Plus option. Is it ever better value or a good idea compared to the regular billing plan?

Ignoring the monthly subscription charge that it will eventually attract – it seems that at every stage the pricing for AC, DC or IONITY is more expensive with the plus plan structure.

This makes no sense! Am I reading it wrong? Why would anybody pick it over the regular plan?

I guess there are slightly less "time" billing aspects to the plus plan for regular charging – but at the cost of a much higher kWh cost that doesn't seem to offset it in any way that makes the plus plan cheaper.

I remain confused.

It’s definitely not better. New owners will only get the new offer - guess it’s just a positive marketing spin on pushing people over to a new higher cost plan. And im sure some people will fall for it and ‘upgrade’.

Oh, I hadn't appreciated that the non-plus plan is not available to new owners. That makes more sense. And I'm guessing it won't be available to existing owners at some stage in the future too – probably after the three year free-subscription period.

I am also curious how the new Ionity pricing structure will work. I am lucky in so far that I can use Ionity in 95% of my trips. Plenty of chargers along our route. And if there is a need to look for something else, Tesla SuC are a very good alternative. I need to update my travel cost for the last trip to see the impact on the rates.

Here is a screenshot of the new Ionity structure. But that only works on Ionity stations ( PCS has many many more stau]ions of course)

Thats not correct. Plus is open to all come renewal of contract.

I make little use of the existing service and a migration to Plus would be totally crazy for my use case.

Sorry, yes that’s what I mean. New owners only get ‘Plus’, existing owners can choose to ‘upgrade’ early, and only Plus will be available once their 3 year initial free subscription has ended. It’s cheeky of Porsche I think, as no one should upgrade really, and they should have just made these the ‘new’ pricing, which comes in to effect at the end of your 3 year.

While I'm sure it differs by jurisdiction – here in Ireland – the tax, tolls, parking and now fuelling cost advantages of an EV are all slowly getting rolled back. Right at the time that EV adoption is slowing and going through a bump.

Wow, that is really expensive. Both a monthly price and higher charging costs... The right option mentions the Taycan in the service name, the other one doesn't.Feels like Porsche is trying a new business model, but we as first-gen buyers are lucky.

We from Porsche think you should get the

one, which is more profitable for us better. We even call it plus, so it sounds better too!

Just wait until EV road tax arrives - coming to UK next year!

EVs are becoming economical for primarily home charging users only - regular public charging is artificially expensive now (annoyingly so given the turbines generating the wind power are just offshore but yet the price is high). Regime change is needed and a complete dismantling of the monopoly.

We're good at putting prices up and generally "forget" to bring them back down.

I have just completed a long trip through Europe and will share some findings in another thread.
In preparation for the summary I looked at different charging prices along my routes, by different providers.

Why oh Why do the providers have to make things so terribly complicated. When driving with an ICE car you see the prices properly displayed and you can skip some if you do not like the price level. And you simply pay by Credit Card at the pump or till, or by cash at the till. Simple and competitive in costs.

I compiled the following table to compare the costs. And in order to not complicate things even further, I have assumed all charging will be done at Ionity stations. There are some 625 stations around Europe now that can be used, so covers most major routes for long distance travel.

My overall conclusion is that the Porsche Charging Service, whether Plus or not, is not worth it after the 3 years with a new car. I have cancelled my service with Porsche. I did not like the privilege to pay at least twice the price for subscription with Porsche, plus the fact that kWh in some cases were 10 to 20 % more expensive with Porsche.

Below is my table of pricing. I have included and compared the following
- Porsche Charging service PLUS
- Porsche Charging Serice
- Ionity Passport Power
- Ionity Passport Motion
- Ionity by Credit Card

Amateurs! We've had that since for the past 30 years! In fairness its only €110/year for an EV – compared to €2,400/year for a 911 (based on emissions).

The other thing I don't like about the plus service is that it is a monthly rolling commitment, whereas the older service was yearly. This means that Porsche only have to hold prices for a month and can change them ahead of every monthly rollover.

I can understand why they would want to do this – but we'll start to see energy costs being passed on much quicker than we have had in the past.

I think the initial Porsche Charging Service will go down as a period that was better value than we appreciated at the time.

Got this email today from Porsche and thought – oh, they must have improved their new subscription pricing;

"Now even more attractive" must mean something different in Stuttgart! The only benefit of the new plan seems to be if you were using Porsche Charing Lounges or Dealerships.

Otherwise, everything is a price increase.

Edit: I missed the monthly subscription decrease.

I too received this email and filed it away in the "we care about you/window dressing" folder!
