Hello from a fellow Norfolk Mamba driver! Lovely report and a cracking trip. I still look back fondly on my run up and down France last year and the sheer ease of it all thanks to numerous IONITY stations with lots of charger pedestals and availability. A different world!

Great report and pictures @Norfolkporsche – hope I can return the favour next month when we have our first summer trip to Norway.

Glad you enjoyed the hotel in Frankfurt – it is a lot of fun!

It was great to see that the IONITY network continues to deliver in mainland Europe – and the buildout in the UK is looking impressive too. We're starting to lag behind here in Ireland due to our stupid planning laws and green party not particularly supportive of EV cars.

It is always a genuine PITA to have to purchase new tyres when on a roadtrip. Though as a big fan of Pirelli – I would have been très heureux to have been offered them in Dijon.

I was never a huge fan of the Mamba Green colour – I'm too obsessed with blue cars of all hues (current obsession: Oslo Blue) – but your car sitting outside your AirBnB cottage just looked wonderful.

You got some very decent climbs and high altitudes in on this trip.

And a timely reminder that with the right charging infrastructure – a Gen 1 Taycan remains a wonderful road-trip car – especially a Turbo S on those mountain passes!
Thanks for that tigerbalm.

Mamba is a marmite colour. I have been very dull in my colour choices for cars over the years, sticking to silver, grey, blue and black, but I really like this.

I'll watch out for your Norway trip report. Hope it's fun.

Great trip and report. I'm very jealous as here in the states our charging infrastructure outside of Tesla Super Chargers is wanting. I would love to take mine on these kind of long trips.

Thanks for the great report, I Hope it was as much fun as reading it. Will keep it bookmarked, Most part of it is as interesting for me as a german as well.

When do you think is the pefect time to do the Mountain passes without having to deal with snow? Some days left this year …

Hello, and thanks for your reply. I did an Austrian road trip last year in mid-July, and the passes were open (well, in Austria at least) but it was so much busier on the roads with holidaymakers.

Hello Mr B and fellow Mamba-man. I was a great trip (tyre palaver notwithstanding). I’m itching to get in the car and go again!

You can guess what’s coming next - they don’t mix and match tyre makes, so it meant 4 new tyres.
interesting that they said that.
I asked my local dealership if i can install two new tires in the front that are different brand and they did not mention that it is not possible, but not advisable.
My front tires are wearing out faster than the rears by at least 2000 miles and i had been thinking to replace just the front ones.

Oh you Europeans make us so jealous with your chargers!~

And to think one of the leading U.S. presidential candidates has already vowed to reverse and defund all U.S. EV initiatives...

Many thanks for a great trip report, @Norfolkporsche - I truly enjoyd the pictures and your descriptions!

Makes me regret that we didn't plan for a European road trip this summer. Flying is conveniant and easy, but you also miss a lot of chances to discover new places and travel new roads.

Thanks for taking us along.

So the Col D I'Iseran is now open and I couldn't resist.
Driving South from Geneva I first crossed the Col de la Madeleine and it seems I found the same Ionity station as Norfolk Porsche, I also charged alone, and got 200kw straight from the start. No complaints there.
With 95% in the battery I worked my way anti clockwise up the col to Val D'Isere and back home.
Stunning views, driving above the snow line to 2770 metres and certainly one route to tick off the bucket list.
If I had any downside to mention, I would say the (narrow and twisty) roads up there have a fairly poor surface and structure (likely due to the harsh environment and geological movements) hence no real chance to employ any proper "enthusiastic driving" (but no tickets either!!). Needless to say the Taycan pulled its way up the hills and round the hairpins without hesitation.
Hope you enjoy the pics,

Great write ups, and great pics, and makes one start to think about European trips next year; plus reassuring to hear that there are plenty of chargers over there. One thing that puzzles me, and perhaps someone on here can enlighten me, why aren't there EV chargers on Le Shuttle, they certainly have plenty of electricity down there. And 30 plus minutes of charge would be a good way to start your journey.

Recently, I drove through Switzerland, and it was a great trip. The charging stations were easy to find, especially IONITY ones, so no stress there.

The views were amazing, although some mountain passes were closed due to snow. Still, it was an awesome experience.

Also, for those who might want to go there, you can buy an eSIM online because it's a bit cheaper than just going there and getting a physical one. I used this Switzerland eSIM because their cheapest plan is only €5, so it's a great price.
