The price of a CPO base Taycan is becoming very attractive and I am strongly considering picking one up as my next car (moving from a Cayenne S). Decent mileage 2021 models seem to be the best value and many have the performance battery plus for better range and a bit more power. What are your thoughts on the value proposition here and anything to look out for in earlier generation years like 2021? Not new to Porsche but new to Taycan/EVs. Any must have/not have options? My primary use will be every day commuting to work which is a short drive (less than 10 miles) and general family car. Never owned an EV before but have the ability to install home charging so that wont be an issue. Appreciate any insight!

If you do end up buying a Taycan or even taking one for a test drive, it's likely that you won't want to ever switch back to an ICE vehicle again (at least for daily commute).
Florida has some great incentives for off-peak charging, so do your research while getting your home charging system setup.

Base Taycan has been endlessly praised, and I enjoy it a lot when given an opportunity to drive as a loaner. I do not see any issue with 2021 CPO Base with PB+ battery. The next step is for you to drive it as getting in and out is known to be a challenge and then post the ones that you are considering with options so we can review and advise.

Thanks for the feedback! I am looking forward to driving one as I have never driven an EV before. Below the window sticker for the one I am going to look at over the weekend.

The main misses on the spec sheet are ACC and Leather Interior.
If you can do without ACC and the Standard Interior (very little leather) is good with you then this is a good one. Very rare to see a Base car with the BM audio system. Other options are spot on such as 150kW/400V that we hope can be leveraged when Tesla opens its network to us.

The point that @RBGtaycan is making that the fancy charger that it comes with is not something to use for home charging setup ($1,120 Mobile Charger Connect). Any other 3rd party EVSE would be better. We can help you with that when you get the car.

Thanks! AAC and full leather are actually not important to me so no sweat there. The only "miss" for me is the mission E wheels which I love, but anything other than the standard 19" wheels is essentially fine for me. I am going to see it/drive it Saturday morning. Even if I dont end up with this one, at least I will come away knowing whether the Taycan is the move for me or not.

Then you are good and you can get MissionE wheels as a part. Not sure where you are but you can have a 20-inch set for winter and 21-inch MissionE wheels with summer tires for summer.

Same here, never driven an EV before the Taycan. I drove a Base for a day and that was it for me.

I really enjoyed my MY21 RWD. I did not retain it because I refused to acquire it for $5k above its fair value at lease end. Additionally, I didn't want to pay an additional $4k to have it CPO'd. The numbers made no sense, hence I leased a MY24 4S for an OTD that was little bit more $$ than my MY21 base.
I can't say enough good things about my driving experience with the MY21. Almost 3 1/2 years and 33k miles of pure driving enjoyment. No major issues, a couple of minor glitches but really trouble free.
Enjoy it.

I was looking in the charging section of the forum for a guide to home charging but surprisingly had trouble finding a good beginners/crash course thread. Is there one you know of? My fear is that I am impulsive and will come home with a Taycan Saturday only to realize I can’t adequately charge at home just yet…

Ha - I'm almost in your exact same position at this time...Ready to punch the ticket and only just now getting an electrician to quote me on the work with no actual charger picked out or bought.

@joefig44
I can help. I was in the same place. The setup is surprisingly simple, but there is just too much information with so many choices that is it easy to get lost. I wanted the simplest, cleanest, and best-looking setup - and this is what I did with rationale behind it.

1. First, the electrician needs to find 60Amps in your electrical panel, which is not a lot and they can combine smaller unused capacity slots to build out a single 60Amp slot, which is what my electrician did as we had available slots from unused oven, tub, and water heater. 60Amps recommended to give the car the max possible, but if you can only find 50Amps or even 40Amps, all this will do is it will take longer to charge, to make a point if you have less is not a deal breaker.

2. Second, you want the shortest copper wire possible from the electrical panel to your EVSE to save cost and make it as clean of a look as possible. I was able to achieve that by placing my EVSE right next to the panel with the copper running inside the wall, so it is totally invisible. See picture.

3. Third, you want to pick your EVSE, I chose Emporia as it is #1 rated across the board. I recommend direct wire to take advantage of the max 60Amp input. Others choose to build out a socket, that must be Hubble, that decreases the power, complicates things, and makes it look like a mess, not me.

4. Forth, you want to be sure that the cable from the EVSE can reach the car. Emporia comes with a 25ft cable good to reach 2 cars for me in the garage.

5. Five, you just need to understand how charging works. Taycan has 2 charging ports, and both accept AC home charging. The setup that I am describing works like this. 60Amp input from panel to EVSE, then EVSE reduces it to 48Amp (regulations/code), which means that it will charge the car at a max of 11kW that it is designed for. I am not going to complicate things with the very uncommon 100Amp/22kW setup so other members do not jump on me for not bringing it up.

That's it! I am sure there will be thousands of opinions to complicate what I just described.

Then you configure the EVSE to just provide power (dumb charger) and then let the car control the charging behavior, which is a totally different topic.

Re charging, 3a Choose a Tesla Universal Wall Connector. (And don’t worry about the CEO, since he’ll be enriching himself at our collective expense over the next four years regardless of your EVSE purchase.)
