I have the Fitcam X. I've been extremely happy with it!! I've heard some people complain about the app, but I if I ever need to retrieve the video file I simply eject the sd card and plug it into a computer and I can access all the files!! So, I've never had any issues with any kind of app.

The killer application of that dash Cam is the clean install. I'll give up a little bit of possible video quality for that type of Installation. all I need with my dash cam is the ability to determine who's at fault for the accident
Ditto,

I'm most concerned that it's not visible, as living on London, some tosspot would no doubt decide they may be able to get £50 for a dash cam they've ripped out of a car. I only intend to look at footage if there has been a bump, but must admit accessing footage via the app is sketchy. Something to do with CarPlay running and booting fitcamx wifi link out every minute or so.

That said, i will check it has actually been recording (per the bug comments above) via plugging the card into my computer.

Got the cameras installed and reviewed your post and some others on the hardwiring. I don’t have a multimeter but seems like the hardwiring doesn’t provide enough juice through the wiretap to power up the cameras. Using the same taps, I can charge up the BlackVue battery.
got tired of working in the dark so I’ll give it another try tomorrow. Currently, battery in the trunk floor board, connected to the cigarette lighter to charge and powering the camera. I rather have it hardwired and going to try it again tomorrow with some daylight.
Does your car have the dashcam pre-wire? You know, Blackvue still makes the version without a separate box. That said, sounds like you might be pretty far down the installation path. You could still repurpose the pre-wire to supply 12V to the BV box.

Nope, I didn't opt for the prewire. I'll give it another try later this week to go back to getting the 12V right in the fuse box. It has to be something with the taps or the tiny gauge hardwire from Blackvue.

Now I know. I have a Macan EV on order and won't go this DR970 Box route. Macan EV is even smaller so no clue on where to stash the box. I just like the compactness of the front camera but in if I were to do it again, the DR970X non-box would have been just fine.

I had the Blakvue installed mainly because it’s what the local car electronics store recommended. 3 days of parked recording with its battery. But this was a neat surprise: On a frosty morning the heat generated was enough to melt a window in the frost to get a clear recording.

The easy solution to stop your phone from reconnecting to CarPlay is to temporarily turn off Bluetooth. This is an issue with any in-car device that uses Wifi. iOS is designed to prefer the associated CarPlay Wifi network over any other connected network.

I think I tried that and it didn’t work. Maybe it wasn’t CarPlay that was the issue, was a long time ago.
From memory I had to stop the car WiFi link with phone as that taking precedence over the fitcam WiFi.

I may well be completely wrong on that, but I had a right job getting car play to work again last time I tried hence thinking that was the cause.

With my Blackvue, on the rare occasions that I want to look at footage, on the iPhone I do Settings > General > CarPlay > my Taycan > CarPlay off. Then it will connect immediately to the Blackvue's wifi. Then reverse when finished.

If I were doing that a lot I'd probably build a shortcut or something - but it's quite rare, just the occasional check that the recordings are happening. For anything serious I'm going to pull the microSD card anyway.

No matter what dash cam you buy, pick up a micro SD card reader you can plug into your phone. Transferring videos over wifi from camera to phone is horribly slow, whereas connecting to a USB-C card reader is easy, seamless, and fast. Here's what I bought for $10, https://a.co/d/5EY6805.

I use Garmin mini dashcam 2 with a powerbank which is enougj for me so far and powerbank lasts for 4 days nonstop
I am new to the dash cam topic. I like the tiny Garmin Mini but wonder if it's possible to record videos longer than the adhoc snippets from an accident or save button trigger.

answer: it seems to be possible as it collects all data in 60s snippets until capacity of SD card makes it needed to be overwritten

The way my installer handled that was to install a battery (under the boot floor) which powers the dashcam; it charges only when the 12V power is on. Thus it will continue to power the dash cam for a while when parked, with no impact on the Porsche 12V.
Looking great!
Is there a front and rear version for FitCamx?

Their website shows a rear camera for the Taycan. Requires hard wiring it to the front camera. I opted for front FitcamX only and it has been reliable for 2.5 years and has sufficient resolution for my needs.
