fitcamx do a rear camera too, which would involve moving trim etc, but i think even the porsche one does, as it's just preinstallation of a power supply for their front one (not from to back cabling). I'm sure someone with one will be able to confirm/deny that.
Someone here. I am denying it. ;)

Porsche dashcam pre-wire option includes both front and rear wiring for power (both switched and unswitched, the back one is actually fed from the front) as well as front-to back coaxial connection for video between between front and back (in case of Blackvue, the same coax connection also provides power to the back and the OEM power connector can be left unused). I posted here where the wiring is, and how I reused said pre-wire to connect a 2 channel blackvue (and a Valentine One radar detector, but that's bonus, just a dashcam is less work).

I wonder why the dashcam pre-wiring is only available if you option in a glass roof?

I went for the 70mai Omni 360° with a Blackvue battery: you have parking surveillance with notifications when detecting "suspects" and video uploaded online (file below is 40 times smaller than original, quality might have been reduced), voice command (take photo, shoot left/right), 4G.
All for a reasonable price.

So, FitCamX is what I got. It works as expected. I built in the front-cam myself, done in 25-30 min. The backwards-cam to be installed by a professional, along the doorsills and a job of app. 1,5 -2 hours.
No additional wiring necessary. Plug and Play.

I had the Porsche OEM camera installed by the dealership - despite its shortcomings - specifically so it would be a warranteed part of the car.
did/do you like it? are you satisified wrt alternatives? would you order OEM again or go aftermarket?

I am marginally satisfied. THe software is garbage and frequently the cam decides that we're several years in the future making finding a clip difficult. Interacting with the cam requires temporarily disabling Carplay. I bought a spare card and SD reader for iPhone so I can just hot swap the cards when needed and deal with finding the video on a computer.

It's large. The official Porsche directions have them installing it in a spot off center and in my frame of view so I specifically instructed them to center it behind the rearview, which mostly hides it.

Honestly the FitcamX is a cleaner solution IMO. I started with one, but it didn't work, and I got spooked about messing around in the wiring on my own.

I will also add it was not a cheap option. The camera was something like $600 and the Porsche install was just over $1000.

Thanks for the replies...I was wondering about 'the clause" suspected it would be there. Kind of paints you into a corner...buy ours or face denial of service. May head to a dealer and see what they say....

Altering the ECU or splicing wiring could be argued as modifications that may affect other systems and thereby void your warranty. In the USA, it would be very difficult for Porsche to claim a dash camera had any effect on another system. Maybe the 12V battery but that's not generally covered under your new car warranty anyway.

No need to overthink it :like:
