Just bought the car less than 1 week ago…

I purchased from an Infiniti dealership who said the car was all certified and passed their checks etc etc BS BS whatever. I did not ask for the car to be put on a lift as I didn’t know this battery panel cover scratch issue was a thing on a lot of taycan cans apparently where they get scratched and you’re fkd

Anyway a few days after I took it home got on my stomach and looked under the car and there was damage to the plastic drivers side wheel liner right by the front bumper which means someone probably ran over a low speed bump or curb or something. I didn’t get on my stomach to look under at the dealership since it’s so low to the ground ?‍♂Then tonight I started reading about scratches under the cars battery panel and decided to look. Low and behold following down the line from the wheel liner damage is this nasty scratch about 3 ft from it. It’s long and it’s on the metal cover but right at the very edge by the drivers side door.

So how how fkd am? This dealer really lied through their teeth about the damage to the car and I’m a fool for not asking for it to put on a lift. Frankly I was new to the Taycan I wouldn’t have even been concerned about the scratch but more so the plastic wheel liner that was ripped and hanging off. Meanwhile this scratch is the real issue I’m reading. Obv clean carfax 1 owner checked all the boxes. Useless.

The car is a 2021 and has 3 months of warranty remaining. Keep in mind it drives fine and all that, but I have to worry about the battery warranty being voided now and such.

I assume get it to a Porsche dealer and have them do an assessment right? From what I’m reading insurance covers this type of damage so outside of the deductible I shouldn’t be too financially burdened correct?
Also keep in mind I absolutely did not cause this damage. I’ve driven it less than 30 miles so far on the smoothest of roads. If I call up Infiniti and demand my money back they are going to say “prove it” I’m assuming. What would you do?

Thank you. This is just not my week or month or even 2025 for that matter unfortunately (sounds like the friends intro) not having a good run of luck in my life lately…

I personally wouldn’t worry about that at all… just a lightly scratched exterior panel from what I see. There’s a lot of protection there. Enjoy the car ?

That does not look like the battery cover to me. On pre facelift models it is is smooth steel. See the pic of my last Taycan. On facelift it is glass fibre.

First, this is hard to tell what part is scratched. If this is in fact just the plastic, then as others said, this very common since the car scrapes easily and most owners will have something similar. The concern is only if the steel protective plate is indented by 3mm or more.

Could you provide more context to where exactly this scratch is and if it is plastic or metal.

Car has Smart Lift function if equipped with Air Suspension so that is meant to be used when going over speed bumps, steep driveway approaches, or uneven surfaces.

This is absolutely on the metal panel unfortunately. Sharp to the touch. It’s right at the edge where the plastic underside ends and the metal begins. It’s the first 1 inch of the batter panel.

It doesn't appear to have dented the panel just scored a groove in it.

The most vulnerable area is the very middle of the battery.
Therefore, if this is a measurable scratch even at 3mm then there is no concern.
This is what it is for, the protection plate, and works as designed.

Scratches are a non-issue. Dents is what you should worry about. And you have none

The pipes for the heating block / heating valves (depending on production year) are covered by a non-smooth not steal cover. Even in your picture. That is what you are seeing that is not smooth

Yeah it’s all metal scratches for sure, but no dents per se. There is one larger metal gouge which is the original pictures. I’d say I can get the tip of my finger nail in there at the deepest point. No dents or scratches in the middle of the unit.

Separately to this issue there is a spot (no dents or scratchs near it) that has a greasy film on it to the touch as pictured. Its the last spot on the metal cover before the back bumper starts. Coolant leak?

Thank you for all the replies.

Thank you. It felt greasy when I touched it so I was concerned. I’ll monitor it for a bit I guess

These drains tend to clog and do a lot of damage. They have been redesigned, I believe, starting with MY22. Watch this video on how to work on them. I am not saying you should do it yourself, since there is a TSB that you can bring up to dealer to execute on, since you are under warranty.
