Had a series 1 2020 4S. Was bought off the floor from local dealer with no choice on spec but as one of the first batch of cars was highly optioned and a beautiful car. Really loved the colour (Crayon/Chalk) and had no real performance/maintenance issues other than all the recalls. For me only three irritants: 1. Difficult to access boot with very sensitive closing mechanism - literally a feather 1mm above the boot height would make it reopen 2. Low clearance - even with ride height raised would scrape driveways and speed bumps every day 3. Slightly numb steering (I had power steering plus) - had a series 2 RWD as a loaner last year which was a transformation in terms of steering feel.

Last month disaster struck: boot opened as leaving car park and as I went to push this down car accelerated off and struck a concrete lane divider. Luckily no one injured. Initially damage did not look too bad and I was able to drive home. Dealer went pale when the car arrived and one month later confirmed a write-off due to battery damage.

Fortunately I had a policy with Porsche insurance which has turned out to be a really good investment. Long-story short, I ended up with a 4S CT which was an ex-demo with 700km. Reasonable spec and dealer was happy to help make a few additions to bring closer to my old car in terms of looks and features.

The good

1. Would never have been brave enough to order Shade Green but actually great and one of those colours that looks different depending on the light. It is actually quite a subtle colour and you have to look really close to realise it is a metallic.
2. Satin finish on the rims really looks very 'technical' and really enhances the overall look of the car.
3. CT answered my issues with the boot and clearance, with better comfort an additional bonus on our really poor roads in NSW.
4. Series 2 steering feel seems to have much better feel and the range (so far) about 30% better. It all helps.
5. Electric charge ports - did not have these on my old car and these look amazing and as the cover slides up inside the car does not protrude like the manual version - not a drama at home but was a concern in public car parks when charging.
6. Bose sounds clearer - not sure if this is newer electronics or differences in the internal acoustics between sedan and CT?
7. Front cross-traffic alert useful when exiting garages and car parks with limited visibility - I did not have this before.
8. Can now charge the phone without a cable - finally!
9. Would still not have paid $4.5K for it but I do like the Porsche clock.
10. Also really like to illuminated Porsche rear lettering.

The not so good

1. Still prefer the 'look' of the sedan and the series 1 headlights
2. Armrest storage and access still terrible - it is just such a pain to use. And whilst we are on the topic of bad design, still cannot manually control air vents.
3. Why change the functioning of the ACC wand - it worked fine before, assume I will get used to it but was the change necessary?
4. Still no sunglasses holder - my daughters 2015 base Skoda Fabia has this, but not a Porsche?
5. Cannot see the passenger screen so now totally useless as an extra screen (unless you actually have a front passenger in the car who is also very resistant to motion sickness) - just appears a matt black to the driver due to filter to prevent driver from seeing screen.

Some great changes for you.

The PSP (power steering plus) has always been excellent in my experience - 2 Taycans and other Porsches - perhaps yours wasn't 100%.

Bose i find good on my ST and (to me) as good as was in my saloon. Accoustica will be different but I suspect is factory tuned to the model.

Enjoy!

I plan too! I still really love the Taycan - performance, the quiet environment and the quality.
Had two hire cars whilst waiting (Nissan, Mazda) and really they were seriously terrible. I know it is a first world problem but would not want to have to drive this type of car every day unless there was really no option.

Spot on observations, thank you for sharing.

Lots of good improvements on the refresh model but the look of the front most say is a step back and more generic rather than the original design from the Mission E concept look.

Bose is fantastic in the Taycan, but do not make a mistake and assume it is as good in the Macan EV, it is simply terrible.

ACC stalk revision is the biggest disappointment with its flipped design completely defining logic, which is typical of Audi, so not surprising it comes from well...Audi.

Congratulations on the new car.

Can you explain what happened when the car accelerated off?
Seems a very strange/dangerous thing to happen.

It was all over in 1.5 seconds so hard to be precise. I think I did not completely engage Park when I went to leave the car (I pressed button but obviously not hard enough) and as I was trying to exit must have pressed on accelerator. Much as I would prefer to blame the car/electronics/design I think it was really just me.

If I'm reading this correctly you're saying you got out to close the boot and the car drove off by itself?!?!?! What on earth?

My understanding that the car automatically goes into Park as soon as the door is open.

Good write up. Last month I moved from a 2020 (Turbo S) to a 2025 (Turbo) and agree with your observations. The J1.2 is an all around more refined version of the original. I was going to do a more thorough comparison at some point.

Interesting to me is that you find the Bose to be "cleaner". My 2020 had the Burmester and, while I don't consider myself an audiophile at all, the Bose is a huge downgrade after listening to the Burmester every day for 4 years. It's really my only complaint about the 2025.

I had Burmester in 2 970 Panameras which were both great, then moved to a 971 Panamera with Bose and I always thought it sounded rubbish. Last year I traded to a MY23 GTS Taycan with Bose and it's a huge improvement on the Panamera Bose.

Have always wanted Burnmester but very rare option in Australia so have never experienced.
Yes, opened door but did not have the chance to exit car. Maybe I feel better now that Park should have engaged.

Thanks for the write up. I just had my MY20 in for a heater replacement and had a well-specced 2025 base model as a loaner for a few days. I had to drive my son back to college so actually had some good seat time in it. Granted, I’ve got a 4S so the comparison wasn’t apples to apples. TBH, the only thing I liked about the J1.2 was the range. The front end design looks generic, some of the PCM changes felt unnecessary (but it does feel “snappier”), and even though it had air suspension, it felt bigger and less tight to me.

I hope you enjoy the new one and drive the hell out of it. Porsche delivered a true version 1.0 with the J1 and I was fully expecting that, but hoping the J2 is a true 2.0. Otherwise, I‘m driving my car for a very long time and don’t see much problem with that. Especially if the J2 has some AI in it ?
