Received an email today from Porsche titled Important Safety Recall. -Free Taycan Battery Module now available for Replacement.
Again Porsche fails to communicate to Dealers - Dealer informed me they have not been informed by Porsche of this latest recall.and have no battery cell replacements . In fact they told me there still is a 6 to 8 week backlog regarding getting defective battery cell replacements. To date there are over 9 recall notices outstanding and The control module has to be updated I am told ASAP otherwise certain functions may fail in my 2020 Taycan per dealer. Good news is come Sept I am ordering a BMW IX3 a more reliable EV
Update : here is text of email

I'm not surprised the Dealers weren't contacted. They're sometimes treated like mushrooms (always kept in the dark and fed, um, what comes out of the south end of a northbound bull).

Sounds like the free Taycan Battery Module is now available for Dealer Service Departments to order it. Then you contact a dealer to schedule the service, which won't happen right away. I occasionally send links of these posts to my Porsche Service Advisor and Sales Rep to keep them in the loop, and they've appreciated it. Hope you enjoyed your Taycan while you did, and best of luck with your IX3.

I'm curious what would make you believe that yet another all-new model from a different manufacturer is likely to be any more reliable than what you’ve experienced with your existing first-year model?

Hmmmm … well some dealers know …… I got the same email and text yesterday and within an hour my SoCal dealer reached out to me to book in the car, they set up the service date and the details of the recalls are all outlined in the service appointment.

Can you show the email? Will it be a new battery or re-manufactured?

How can we sign up to get those emails directly from Porsche?

In any case, can you share the text of the email you received? Our 2021 4S had to be towed to the dealer about a week ago. On Friday they let us know that battery cell repair (replacement?) would be required. They expect it to take “a month or so” to get parts and permissions from Germany to do the work. It sounds like that could be done sooner than they think, if this dealer also hasn’t received the notification in that email.

Guys, it’s not all bad news here. I am in USA, Florida. My dealer gets battery cells quickly and can do a full R&R in about 24 hrs. Porsche is indeed working on the supply chain issues. At the end of the repair, you get a fully tested practically new battery / with warrenty.

I will be posting a comprehensive video soon on the process. It’s really simple compared to fixing ICE engine.

What is the Manufacturer Recall number on your letter?

ARB7 only says: vehicles will be inspected and if determined necessary, specific modules within the battery will be replaced. Newly developed battery monitoring software will also be installed when available.

In your case, It sounds like the "inspection" (in person? via software over the air?) has specifically found a problem.

So it is interesting to know what your Manufacturer Recall number is since it does not sound like ARB7

The new software that has not been deployed and is not available to dealers in any country, as confirmed by my dealer this Friday. So it's not that.

Interesting.

I’m supposed to be taking delivery of my 2022 Taycan GTS sometime next week so I’ll reach out to the Porsche dealership and get them to see if this applies to my car.

I’d rather it stays there a while longer and gets things sorted…

The email posted above is same as the one I received - badly written as it states " FREE Taycan Battery Module Replacement Now Available at Your Porsche Center " in first paragraph - then suggests urgency in contacting the Dealer to ".... to have this software update performed as soon as possible " - I think a cut and paste lazy error on Porsch NA part.

like I said in my post earlier - the dealer reached out to me an hour later, here are the jobs noted in the Dealer Invite for the service appt:-

Services
1. ARB6 Checking HVB cell modules and re-programming BMCe software
2. WRS1 Checking high-voltage battery and replacing cell block module if necessary
3. WRW1 Re-program external communication control unit (OTA-FC)
4. WRE1 Replacing cell block module on high-voltage battery (33)
5. WRA6 Replacing vehicle charging cable on the Porsche Mobile Charger
6. WRJ5 Cell block module HVB (accompanying action APB5/ARA4/ARA5)
7. ARA4 Replacing cell block module on high-volt battery

I received this email as well - mine states it only applies to 2020-2023 taycans (of course YMMV.)

I look forward to this - I recently had my HV battery repaired through a different campaign - I think ARB5? (whichever one required the entire thing to be crated and set via DDR crate to Oklahoma, and which took over 2 months.)

I'm still getting annoyed with the communication though; I much prefer open transparent comms (like I'm sure most of us do). I wish they'd just come around and say exactly what's wrong and what needs to be fixed. This piecemeal communication really is getting tiresome; I'm almost at the point of wondering if I shouldn't trade in for something else.
