If the only reason the car was returned was for a replacement battery, isn't that a real result - if the replacement battery resolves all the recalls, isn’t that the position where a lot of owners on here would wish to be in - apologies if I’m missing something here. What is a 14 month old car worth compared to the $ 80k ?

For me, this was the best deal. Only was able to drive the car for few days since I’m on vacation but it’s perfect. I’m also purchasing a 10 year extended warranty for 6k so I honestly don’t know why people would avoid these especially if the battery was replaced. I still haven’t found any reason to avoid these especially with it still in factory warranty + the ability to buy extended warranty.

Also price-wise, I still cannot find a similarly spec’d GTS for less than 95-100k so I’m super super happy.

As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

And it seems like the previous owner has posted and been clear on what was wrong with it. So happy days.

Warranty cover is peace of mind. Just be aware that issues can take these cars off the road for prolonged periods. Cover by warranty is one thing, being without a car for months another.

In the UK at least it's a buyers' market. There's little reason to buy a car with a story...if a car was a unique and desirable spec then maybe, but it would have to be massively discounted. If 10k or so is enough to tip the balance for you then that's fine.

Also be aware that other buyers may not be so forgiving when you come to pass the car on.

Yeah that’s fair. I think a lot of the posts or comments I came across was to NEVER buy a lemon car in which I was trying to understand but ultimately concluded that it depends on each car and situation and that it’s not really anything to avoid especially with Taycan where there was a lot of bought back cars due to minor issues and part shortages, etc in the early days.

Read the fine print, you can’t get an extended warranty on a branded title.
I’m not sure if that’s true since multiple dealers that gave me a quote all said otherwise. None said anything about the branded title even with taking the VIN and being ready to complete the order. Maybe in U.S. this is different.

My dealer said branded Taycans are not eligible for extended warranty

Maybe the dealer confused it with CPO? The two dealership I asked said it doesn’t matter and the rest of them to give me quotes all took the VIN and didn’t say anything. I got quotes from 4-5 dealerships which all took my VIN.
But then one of the dealership said these warranties work internationally which was clearly not true so ..

I hope my dealer was ill informed, would be great to have an extended warranty. I'll try another dealer.

Seems to be different to the UK. Though our lemon laws are very different AIUI.

Simplest way will be to ask the question very unambiguously in writing. "My car has <lemon law, or whatever it's officially known as> title. Does this warranty product fully cover it?".

If they reply affirmative you have that to fall back back on.

I would not rely on them having your VIN as comfort.

It does strike me as odd that Porsche wouldn't allow warranty on a car they put back on the road. But think extended warranties are an insurance product, so who knows. Maybe they simply aren't dealt with directly by Porsche and they have no influence on extent of cover in this respect?

If it's true, it would add more weight to avoiding them.

Read the exclusions section of the warranty. Mine said,

"Any Mechanical Breakdown of a gray market vehicle
or a vehicle that does not have a valid United States
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Any Mechanical
Breakdown of a vehicle that has ever been declared
or title branded as salvage, junk, rebuilt, totaled, or
flood damaged. Any Mechanical Breakdown of a vehicle
that has suffered damage or an event that voided the
factory’s new car limited warranty."

Doesn't matter what they said,

Sweet, so sounds like I can indeed purchase the extended warranty!

When I asked if a lemon was consider branded under the extended warranty, the Porsche Sales guys said:

"Hi , Porsche did get back to me and we can not offer you coverage unfortunately."
