Hi all, Taycan owner for the past 3 years so pretty confident on what I can cut from my current spec, adding additions is the harder choice.
My current one has the following that I've decided to not spec this time:
  1. HUD - doesn't work with my polaroid sunglasses and find the dash offers an excellent view anyway
  2. Vented seats - nice option but pricey, used in a dozen or so times since having it, also not as effective as the Audi equivalent
  3. Acoustic/Thermal Glass - not entirely sure this is a good choice to remove, but any loaner I've had I didn't notice any increase in cabin noise
  4. Auto door opening - annoys me! I lock the car, then walk around it and it unlocks by itself. Also really inconsistent.
  5. Carbon interior - expensive for how little is on show.
This is my current build. Anything on here that is a waste of money or potentially worth adding? Budget is starting to get a little bit streched but probably can add a bit more if essential:

I just got a Macan without thermal glass. That was a mistake. Taycan with thermal glass is much more enjoyable place. I don't notice the sun at all. While in Macan... uff... it's hot.

Interesting how Porsche couldn't figure out how to put a wiper on thermally insulated glass in the Macan EV though.

I could live without any of those, and YMMV but I think any expensive car should have comfort entry. It pains me to pay a lot for a porsche and not have this feature which is standard on many new cars.

Auto door opening? Do you mean unlocking, or is this entirely different? Isn't that a comfort access feature you can disable?

I find Comfort access works reliably. I always press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key to disable it, when I don’t want the car to unlock as I walk past. Have a think how often you use the ‘close and lock’ button on the boot - you’ll lose that without comfort access and will need to get your hands on the key to lock the car every time. I’d buy it just for this!

Assuming you mean what is now called "Porsche Entry", ie auto unlock as you approach:
I have been thinking that I might be better off NOT having this on my new car. Sure, it's handy to have the doors unlock without fumbling for a key; and to be able to open the boot with a kick... once you have practised it 1000 times. (Opening the bonnet with a wave of the hand is just silly - it never works and I end up getting road dirt on my hand while trying :) )

But on the other hand:
- Being an ex-Tesla owner, I often walk away and forget to lock the car, and find it still unlocked the next day. More regular use of the key might deter this
- The doors unlock when I'm washing the car, and when either of us walks past the car with key in pocket/purse. The key can be disabled of course, and *mostly* it locks again, but even so, it's annoying.
- There is a slightly enhanced risk of theft by signal relay when in a public car park.

On balance I'm wondering whether I find comfort access more irritating than helpful. Its close to 50/50.

Oh, do you? That would be disappointing. It's a great button. One of those things where you say "why don't all cars have this?".

Agreed on the frustrations w Porsche’s approach and also that they charge for it extra. I hate having to take my keys out and just think the car is stupid for not knowing I’m there. I also had a Tesla and have the same issue w walking away. I can’t for the life of me see an option to auto lock after you walk away unfortunately.

Agreed on #1 and #5. I think thermal glass is critical to maintain cabin temperature and HVAC efficiency.

I particularly think carbon trim (interior and exterior) is way over done. It was cool 20 years ago on a performance car, but it's essentially veneer how it's actually used and tacky . .Yes, ironically I have CF blades on my exclusive aero wheels (I didn't order this car) ?

Pretty good build.
Thermal Glass is worth to me for the thickness alone on frameless doors.
Are you sure about Design Clock? I have it but it is useless at night as you cannot tell the time.

I was going to suggest that the massaging seats are worth it even if you don't specifically want the ventilation (which comes along as a side effect), but it seems that you have already chosen that. One option that I'm probably in the minority on is the night vision assist. If you don't drive at night much, or are in an area without much worry about interactions with peds or wildlife, you probably won't get much use out of it. I live in an area with relatively few sidewalks, narrow roads, and deer roaming around. If any of that applies to your situation, you might want to consider it. Even if you don't have it active in the center tube, it lurks and warns you of impending dangerous situations pretty effectively.

If you're not completely attached to having a third clock cluttering up the otherwise clean dashboard you have created by eliminating the HUD bump, dropping that would more than offset the additional cost.

I’m in England so weather is never mega hot, although we do occasionally see north of 30 degrees. My business partner has a new car coming in a couple of weeks without the thermal glass so I’ll see how that looks.

I like the design clock, I’ve got it on my current build and it the only one that looks like a watch (I like watches ?), can say I look at it that often to tell the time though, I normally just look on the dash ?

Neve felt I’ve needed the night vision, although for 4 months of the year I’m driving too and from work in the dark I suppose. Lights are so good it’s never cause me a problem. Will have a think though ?

Get the insulated windows. Having had a Taycan with and one now without I can hear the difference. Mostly on highways with cars on the sides. And it is a lot better at thermal isolation.

The comfort access I would also get, and just disble what you don't like in the PCM. Just for the resell value.
