Are you suggesting that J1.1 cars (with this latest PCM update) will get the additional functionality of Apple maps directions in dashboard or is this feature only available on J1.2?

@ct14garage : Could you please comment on this?

Thanks.
Yeah, and could you also comment, if the OTA-updates via wifi of the phone will be possible in j1.1 cars ?

Only small thing - your user registration would be considered not in compliace with GDPR, as you collect personal information that isnt relavent (DoB etc).

Why not? You are aware of the fact that j1.1 taycans for the Russian market have the possibility to connect to WiFi’s. Wouldn’t it be possible to get this for other regions as well via coding?

No because it’s not about the PCM.

The OTA modules are completely different

Yes, it will.

This link contains some of the changes that the latest version of PCM 6 contains, that CT14 will let us update to with his software.

These things didn't exist on j1.2 either before the update; so they are from that new PCM version

Which is likely why j1.1 didn't get the updates in the first place, as Porsche would have to do a service campaign, which costs a lot of paid hours of service time on Porsche's dime.

Which sucks... They promised OTA when releasing the car, and now they don't offer it. They should have replaced OTA module on j1.1 cars if it was such a problem.
It's annoying that no class action lawsuits are started for all these lies...

I can't imagine the cost/stability of 150,000 taycans downloading an 8gb file every time there is an update via a 3g/4g connection would be much fun. not defending them, as they could have easily developed the platform to accept incremental, much smaller update files if they bothered getting anyone who had half a Braincell to develop the Porsche software experience.

Apple/Android handle just fine 6-8gb updates for 700mil-1.5billion devices at once.
It can be done.

I dont think the problem is the servers/arhitecture behind, this can be rented from big providers. It's the OTA module inside the cars.

of course it is feasible, but for a lot of reasons totally not desirable.

but
a) most phone updates I've ever seen are less than 2gb and
b) most people will be downloading them via WiFi not mobile data (that's even the default setting on both devices).

Don't tell me you are giving all your personal information away?
No one is forcing you to tell the truth here, it's just registration.
Only my email is correct, the rest is, like you mentioned, not relevant.

Also we’re not based in the EU. GDPR is irrelevant here.

how reliable are replaced modules on the taycan? I recall in the early days of module replacements on Teslas wasn’t very good. Just wondering if there is data on the taycan

Depends if they are refurbished modules, from another j1.1 taycan, or j1.2 modules.
In my case they used refurbished modules from a totaled out 2023 Taycan 4s, aka j1.1 module. And just like all j1.1 modules, the risk of manufacturing defect is there.

@ct14garage was mentioning that 2020 modules are even worse, so if you get a refurbished one from a 2020, probably not great.

@ct14garage what makes 2020 batteries so much worse than 2021 that you consider all will eventually fail?
