Thought I would start a separate thread for this since the PCM discussions are a bit all over the place now.

It seems like it has been established that the J1.2 has not gotten any hardware upgrades. Even the announced upgrade for the MY26 Taycan seems to be just software.

The question then is, what options do we have to get this on the J1.1? I know @ct14garage says it's possible to do the upgrade on USB at own risk (a pretty big risk it seems). Is anyone willing to try that or has had it done?

I still have not seen any J1.1 in the wild with 4xxx of the PCM software.

If you do it your self, how will that affect the warrenty?

It will void your warrnaty - as it is not offered by Porsche directly; otherwise I would have done it ages ago.

But can’t realistically afford to have a taycan without warranty

The only option is to ask your porsche center to ask/escalate for an official statement as to why they don’t offer the update.
If enough people do it, there is a chance that someone with decision power might have a look at it, as they all are very busy designing “new colors”

You cannot update it from a usb, as far as I know. As different ECU modules need to be updated as well, it’s quite an involved procedure.

First few batches of MY25 shipped on 3882 PCM, and they had to go through an update campaign to 4360 - on porsche central’s dime.

From what my service guy told me, it’s at least 20 ECUs software that need to be updated before you even start the PCM update, all in all, it can take 3-5 hours, assuming nothing fails, as much as a full day if something fails. Of course, it’s not a supervised update the whole time, they can leave it and work on something else.

Latest PCM version is 4576 I think, which shipped on MY26.

Porsche would have to open an update campaign for both my20-24 and my25, for everyone to get the latest version. Quite a lot of service hours to be paid by porsche central. I wouldn’t bet money on it happening, with how greedy and anti consumer Porsches has been when it comes to EVs

I thought so. Can't afford it either.

I find it a very strange business descision to keep developing the same software on the same hardware and only release if on the facelift.

Have a J1.2 loaner with 4360 software and it is so much smoother.

See my previous post. It’s a decision about paying or not for all those service hours.

I would pay for that, I am so fed up with the 3882 crap I have now. Here in Norway 5 hours would be about €1000.

Here is the update procedure bulletin they released for updating MY25 cars that shipped with 3882 to 4360

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11015189-0001.pdf

and here is the invoicing campaign for it https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11012767-0001.pdf

It lists the sequence of all the ECU updates needed before PCM update.

Bring it to your dealer, and ask him to apply it to your car. See what he says.

good luck

EDIT: there is no bulletin for 4576 update yet, as my26 shipped with it, so no car had to be updated to that.

It's at the dealer now. Will ask.

Hi

I am on 3885 and it better and more solid

Regards

Erik
3885 addresses connection issues and screen stuck at logo issues.

dealers are told to install it only if you complain about those specific issues

only a small PCM update, no functionality changes. No ECU updates required

Well that's easy. Just tell them that you have regular Porsche connect issues. There has to be some updates to that system in every release.
I got them to update mine to the latest software with that.

There is no definitive data to support the theory that MY26 does not have updated hardware somewhere - I suspect it does but buried and not obvious to spot. For this reason the software stack for both J1.1 (for all components and not just the PCM) and J1.2 will be different.

To be honest it's pretty lame of Porsche to at least not provide some software updates for the digital cockpit which have proved useful on the J1.2 - in particular the battery info and charging capability.

I guess the downside of digital screens is that the content becomes stale and we always want more.

Something that they did do in 2023. Surprising that they don’t keep updating the fleet.

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/202...ge-software-update-2023-model-year-29112.html
In 2022* ; yea, they updated older cars to the PCM version that shipped with MY23

But I guess they realized how costly it is, because right now service are being told to not do it as they won’t cover any costs.

Back then taycans were also selling like hot cakes, but now it’s a very different situation, with -40% sales and lower profit margins than ever, at around 5%, below even Skoda.

But this approach is going to hurt them further in the long term. Just like people in China consider porsche outdated, people in the western world will also start believing that when Porsche stops supporting their cars after they get shipped.
