But I guess they realized how costly it is, because right now service are being told to not do it as they won’t cover any costs.
Yeah it's a giant change for companies that have their process designed around "ship and forget" in relation to software. I have seen it in many other companies as well.

It's such a shame that they don't invest in getting it right. I mean a few solid updates would take them a very long way. I don't need a new fart sound every two weeks or a holiday theme. But there once a year or so was a few noticeable improvements to the software it would make the car feel way less forgotten.

I am getting 3885 for my GTS today. Let's see if anything improves. And I asked the service rep and the problem for them when doing PCM updates is that unless you have known issues and they are documented with images/video they will not touch it since they then need to cover the bill thems selfs.

I also tried to reach out to someone well known with the Taycan development within Porsche. The answer I got was not very uplifting. The summary is that there will only be small updates in the time going forward and only for facelift. Major changes to PCM was implemented in 2024 and that was also for the J1.2. So unless things change I guess J1.1 customers are stuck with what we have...

I have had a J1.2 CT4 loaner for a few days now and I have been playing around with the PCM on it. I like almost all the changes. It is a bit faster, but not much when you dig a bit in the UI. The things I would like to have ported is all related to battery information, charging and charge planning. That should not be hard for them to backport to the J1.1.

Yes, the two most helpful UI improvements in the J1.2 are the display that shows the current max charging speed in kW; and the simple dial to set how much charge to put in.

Half the forum traffic over the last few years was because Porsche got those two bits of UI design wrong in the J.1 -- endless questions about "why does this charge so slowly" and "what timers/profiles do I set to charge to x%".

I got my GTS back today from the dealer. Changed some wiring that caused some faults and upgraded the PCM to 3885. Let's see if it's a little less crap.

Looks like Porsche is not willing to update J1.1 cars because the update proces is complicated and expensive for them. And sales of Porsche Taycan is lower than expected.
Important factor for sales dalling down is huge depreciation of electric Porsche.
Important reason for it is lack of software updates.

Unless Porsche starts ALL CARS beeing updated to the last software version and features we will have bigger and bigger depreciation and sales falling down to zero.

So far the 3885 is working better for me. CarPlay is alot faster to connect and the PCM in general seems a bit more responsive. But that could just be me imaging things...

Sometimes its the full reset that was part of the update the causes things to behave well for a while.

Porsche has announced new entertainment features for the Macan with Android Automotive OS. https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/202...e-comfort-assistence-entertainment-40360.html

I hope Porsche doesn't forget the existing Taycan customers in software development. At the moment it seems to be quiet about updates. Not even the current problems of the PCM (Navigation Crash, etc) are solved.

I am also curious how Porsche reacts to the Carplay updates such as Airplay Video or Carplay Ultra with iOS26.

Carplay updates are out of Porsches hands, thankfully. So we will get these updates no matter what.

As for the PCM for the J1.1 (version 3xxx) it's a dead product as of now. No development being done, just break/fix for critical issues. They could retrofit the 4xxx branch form J1.2 to J1.1, but seems like there is no initiative within Porsche to do this.

According to Apple, the manufacturer must allow video in Carplay and the integration of the Carplay Ultra Dashboard is also up to the manufacturer. Thus, we may not be able to look forward to all the new functions.

From the betatests I have seen the video function is not ready yet in the betas. Think there will be more information on the video functions in the apple event on the 9th of September when they announce the final version of ios 26. Hopefully.

According to @ct14garage there is a version 4xxx that can be flashed right now. But I have not tried it and as my Taycan is sold as of this Friday I can not test either...
