I purchased a CPO 2020 Taycan Turbo in September of 2023 and purchased the +1 CPO coverage for $2700.00. This is my first Porsche and I just love the car. Knock on wood I have had no issues with the car save the various recalls. I would like to get an extended warranty out to 10 years. Has any one heard of Porsche refunding the additional year of CPO coverage that I payed for and then applying it to the extended warranty? In retrospect I probably should have just bought the extended warranty from the get go. Can Porsche Club of America members expect to receive a 10% discount on the extended warranty. In reading on the forum the price for the warranty seems to be between $4000-$6000, correct?

The way it is done in Malaysia is if you're still in warranty period you can always buy the extended warranty which will only kick in once the current warranty expires. Expensive here though .... much cheaper in NA and Europe it seems.

CPO coverage is essentially FULL no deduction and better than extended warranty...why not just get the extended warranty after CPO expires?

It is critical to purchase an extended warranty prior to expiration of the existing warranty.

Here is a LINK to my journey to get the best price on an extended warranty. Also, I recommend just extending the warranty until the HV Battery Warranty expires (8 years / 100,000 miles). This is a good option price-wise, and you may find yourself in the market for a new Taycan in that timeframe anyway. I'm not sure what I'll do, but owning a Taycan without a HV Battery warranty seems risky to me.

The 8 year HV Battery Warranty just covers the HV Battery.
Some other EV specific components are more costly to replace than a battery cell module - e.g. a traction motor.

Interesting. What would replacing a traction motor cost?
Example cost below.
2nd hand ones are available from £2k upwards, £7500 from a reputable breaker.
Service life & what constitutes premature failure is unkown. I believe those in Teslas can last 200k plus.
Currently in the UK, Porsche has a monopoly on Taycan EV specific maintenance expertise and resource.
A decent warranty seems essential insurance.

I just added an extended bumper-to-bumper 5yr / 60k mile warranty on my Chevy diesel truck through the dealership. While doing so, I asked about adding the Taycan. It would be $6K for +60K miles / 5 years and does cover the HV battery as well. It was discounted as a second vehicle on the policy. I still have a year left, but figured others might be in a similar situation. Has all the same coverage as the factory warranty, but has a $100 deductible. Treated the same way as factory warranty - dealership paid directly. They also offer a 24-month 0% payment plan if needed. The company is called Cars Protection +. They have 3 levels of coverage.

Hi Rooster, the dealer I purchased my CPO from also offered me the extra one-year warranty on top of the two-year CPO warranty for $2,700 US. I declined it for several reasons. First, $2,700 is crazy expensive for only one additional year of extended warranty and I did not see that as a good value. Second, I did not want to give the dealer those dollars several years in advance of when I would potentially need to use the warranty. Lastly, I can buy an extended Porsche warranty six months prior to the expiration of my CPO warranty for the time period I want depending on how long I plan to keep the car at that point in time. Like someone on this thread has already mentioned, there is a separate eight-year factory warranty limitation on the battery which you cannot extend. I am also very nervous about keeping my current Taycan for more than eight years after its birthday due to the potential battery risks that follow. Best wishes on whatever you decide to do and I hope you’re enjoying your Taycan!

In Europe, the follow on Porsche Approved Warranty is being amended to include HV Battery Warranty manufacturing defects after year 8. You may want to ask PCNA if they’re doing the same.

Note the 8 year manufacturing warranty covers the HV battery only. Other EV specific components like the traction/drive motor are not covered. Replacing this is just as expensive/more than the cost of a Battery Module replacement. The same would be true for an ICE motor/drivetrain.
Unless you have deep pockets and do not need insurance, running any Porsche (or equivalent brand) without a warranty is a risky venture.
