I have this unreal luck of a situation being invited to this event by my dealer. I have never been to a track, so that will be something new, and I do not get the sports car thing either such as 718, 911, GT3, etc. as these are just numbers and letters to me, but I hope they can explain them to me in real time environment what is so special about them, as I drove a few around town and do not get why you would want to have one. My experience was a lot of noise and not a lot of go, even in a 911 Turbo S, so to me if this is just for the track, then we do not have one for me to drive to school and work every day. That is why my Taycan is just perfect for that duty or any driving situation.

What is going on: Prepare for a full day of performance driving! You and six fellow [Dealer] clients will get behind the wheel of a 718 GT4RS/SpyderRS, a 911 GT3, and a Taycan Turbo on the west track. Beyond the track, your exclusive experience includes time in the Porsche simulation lab, a gourmet lunch at Restaurant 356, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Porsche Cars North America's headquarters.

I am particularly interested in the behind-the-scenes so I can ask some questions. I am starting this thread to source questions that we have in case I run into an "expert" to ask questions about charging spec (11kW vs. 9.6kW), Timers/Profiles anyone, or anything else. I think they are taking me because I have been omni present at the dealership pestering them with all kinds of technical questions.

I would also appreciate any tips of what I need to keep in mind to appreciate the machines that I will be driving, or it will just be more noise, but this time hopefully more go as this will be on a track. There is no problem with the go part for my Taycan Turbo, although I can see benefit unlocking more power for daily use that is locked under Launch Control.

I'd ask what their long term plan is for handling software updates for existing and newer platforms. I had a kind of ridiculous experience this morning - two weeks after I got my car back from the dealer during which they ran updates on modules and PCM - where a pop up message told me it needed to install the "dynamic finder update from July 2023". My seat settings persist through my Porsche profile but the module and PCM update nukes my smart lift locations? The dealers refuse to install the 4xxx firmware on J1.1 cars even though it is available to them because of Reasons? Whoever is in charge of this critical part of the user experience at Porsche or VAG should be fired.

Make them talk about the future EV roadmap. Explain that ICE cars are now falling into "classic car" territory, not suitable for those of us who want intelligent, high performance daily transportation.

I kind of like that phrase - "Intelligent, high performance daily transportation". It encapsulates what I'm looking for going forward in every vehicle I purchase --
  • Instant Torque with 0-60 mph in under 3.5-4 seconds.
  • Porsche-style handling with options for RWD
  • Multiple regen modes, and NO "one foot" driving behavior.
  • Smart lane and collision avoidance control.
  • Comfortable interior including seats, wheel, climate control.
  • Linkage with Apple CarPlay (a must)
  • Location-based height adjustment (with memory)
  • Design cues that cause me to smile every time I see the car, and know I'm about to go for a drive.

Mine was labeled a January update. It is the wrong voice-over. The version is 7.1.23. I think the voice-over read it as a date with 7 as July (for you) and 1 as January (for me). 23 for for you as year, and it ignored year in my voice-over. This may be due to the difference in date formats between Europe and the US. That date is nonsense - it is a SW verion number, and we should ignore it.

What I would ask might be a bit controversial. Does Porsche believe that if they cannot repair a car under warranty back to full performance specifications because they chose to discontinue parts, does Porsche honestly believe they are off the hook by repairing the car to half the original performance spec and throwing a few hundred dollars at the owner as compensation?

They cannot legally enforce that “half” repair, and you do not have to accept it. So they will keep sweeting the deal until you accept.

So far, people accepted a few hundreds. Doesn’t mean you have to.

Porsche is in its penny pinching phase, and judged that giving some goodies to people to make them accept half repairs, is cheaper than paying R&D on a new 22kw charger

Let’s be real, they won’t answer any of these questions guys… Most of them are not even made or approved by the guys you will be asking the questions to. These decisions come from the leadership to try to minimize costs as much as possible

You're right but that was not what I was driving at and I should have been more explicit. The user experience of that is bad and it should not have happened. Any other company pushing out software updates is paying attention to what the end user experiences during the update process. If that experience is broken with a screwed up reading of a version number as a date, in that weird bronx-accented voice they picked, then it is a bad experience. At that point only two things can have happened - no one tested prior to release, or they knew of the issue and pushed it anyway.

When I did PEC delivery in Atlanta, the behind the scenes tour was just that. The tour showed you the restoration/service shop via a window and the museum. Office area's are in a different area of the building. that is not included in the tour.

I've done PEC in ATL twice - once in a Cayman GTS and once in a Carrera GTS. The Cayman was fun on the west track - instructor was great. The Carrera t-hybrid on the North track was an altogether insane experience, totally different. The throttle response from the electric turbo means quicker acceleration at lower RPM, and I very much recommend anyone that can, give it a test drive. Really, really fun car.

If seat time doesn't bug you too much, have your instructor do a lap or two for you with you in the passenger seat. You will quickly be introduced to what the cars can do in the hands of even just a semi-pro/seasoned vet (all instructors have to have X number of drive hours in a pro/semi pro capacity if memory serves - I am sure someone can better explain here).

Launch control is really fun, I imagine in a Taycan turbo with enough runway you'll experience some high g-force. Listen to your instructors and ask them questions on how to better and quickly improve your speed and handling - there are plenty of track cones and cues to help guide you through break/throttle time, etc.

Re: questions behind the scene - not much help here. Maybe ask them why they keep exponentially increasing pricing on the 911 lineup and who they thing their market is?

That is probably their latest generation of MBA's brilliant idea.
CEO: "We need more profits people!"
MBA: "Eureka, we just increase the prices! Ok, I'm ready for my bonus now for this genius money-making idea."

Some time later:
CEO: "Our revenue is down!"
MBA: "It's the economy. Let's go back to making all ICE cars! I'm ready for my bonus now..."

There's a lot of truth to this. I would have bought another car already from them if:
- They had a compelling EV sportscar
- Their ICE prices weren't through the roof (I'd have given up and got another Targa)

If you can get some news about this, it will be great https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...agement-system-cluster-charging-screen.21070/
