Looking at the Monroney label, the car was ordered by the Porsche HQ. It could have been one of those cars used for demo or by the porsche performance center.
I went with these guys and locked in an appointment for early January.

I liked that they’ve done many Porsches including Taycans.
Yeah they always have at least couple of Porsches and yeah they did my Taycan too :)

That is not encouraging and sounds similar in nature to my sound.
It’s not bad; it’s more of a sliding sound than a scraping one. But I didn’t hear it in my base (also PSCB) or my 23 GTS (steel)
Yeah is the same, I can only hear it at higher speed. The Porsche service guy didn't even noticed the noise but they said is probably because the brakes are new.

I don't buy the "new PSCBs" argument because:

- Why is it only one wheel?
- I had PSCBs on my first Taycan and it didn't do this?

The noise is making me crazy and significantly detracting from my enjoyment of the new car.

My specific ask is that they remove the wheel, examine the pads/rotors and look for a source of friction rubbing.

So here's what they found at Porsche Redwood City today...

These brakes are cooked.

The tech pointed out signs of heat-induced discoloration, pads worn and cracked, etc.

This CPO'd car only had 115 miles on it when I got it. I drove it 400 highway miles home, and around 350 miles around town so far. Normal daily use, nothing hard. I haven't even launched it yet.

I brought all this to the attention of the sales manager from the selling dealership, and to their credit they are appropriately surprised/horrified and have said they will take care of me.

For now I'm assuming positive intent, and that whoever looked over the car for CPO assumed there was no way brakes could have significant wear at 115 miles (as I did.)

In the short term I'm looking at fronting a $7700 front brake job that I'll have to pay Porsche Redwood City. Who, by the way, has been fantastic. They were open and transparent about everything and the tech I'm working with is an EV fanatic who totally gets EVs.

They brought me to the shop to show me the wear and asked if I'd taken the car to the track or something, and pointed out all the severe wear.

Takeaways here:

1. I do not trust Porsche Los Gatos to do absolutely anything at this point. They looked at this issue and waved me off saying it was new PSCB break in that would go away. Between this and the issues on my prior car I am absolutely never using them again.

2. Apparently CPO does not mean you shouldn't get a PPI from a different shop. With the low miles, CPO and my previous trust in dealing with Porsche dealerships, I assumed CPO was as good as gold. Next time I'll get a PPI. So far all signs point to them making this right so I'm willing to call this an unfortunate miss for now.

3. I am seriously exhausted by my past two months with Porsche. I thought buying a new car would get me back on track to a normal vehicular life, but I'm still not there. This is the kind of experience that swears people off of a brand for life.

Your car must have been one of those used in the performance school. It seem like was already by Porsche and wasn’t specific dealer. I would ask the dealer you bought the car from to be transparent and share is the car was in fact one of those. I am sure Porsche will take care of it.

That appears to be the case. Note where it was delivered.

The selling dealership, as a CPO, should have refurbed these brakes. Again I'm going to assume a good-faith mistake at this point, and hope they make things right.

You're describing all the fears I had when purchasing my GTS and the CPO report showing what I considered very abnormal tire and brake wear for a car with only 500 miles on it:

1) Brakes at 8mm front, 9mm back
2) Tires at 5mm

That's what lead me to asking for a PIWIS report and trying to analyze with ChatGPT sending me (I think) down some rat holes. I'm still a bit suspect if I'm honest, because the measures weren't accurate in the CPO report (the actual tire tread depth was 6.2, 5.5, 6.1 and 6.0mm, while a brand new PZ R on a brand new car was 6.5mm), so what can I trust?

Mine wasn't delivered as yours though:

What did the carfax say about previous ownership?

Not sure, and it's gone now from the site.
I'm glad they are owning the problem. Do you have a copy of the CPO report? What does it say about the brakes?

Seems like if they were taking any of the measures in my report they would have seen something:

Nope, I don't have that report. I am now kicking myself.

I hope they own the problem; so far all I've got is a verbal (and that was before the $7700 repair order.)

But I did have a good experience with this dealer, and Im going to assume positive intent and unintentional miss for now.

Honestly it's easy to assume PSCBs are still good at 115 miles; I did. I don't know anyone would have seen the full extent of the carnage without removing the calipers, though the rotor did show hotspots and wear that my new tech identified.

Don't let this to discourage you to enjoy the amazing car. Unfortunately every dealer failed you, which is really sad given that usually the dealer is what makes the brand. I am really sad to hear about Los Gatos. I usually use Stevens Creek who has the same owner group. As you mentioned I wouldn't assume the brakes would be gone that fast with car that has 150miles, but knowing that now, it is extremely heavy car and taking it to the track by someone who really doesn't know how to drive on track and how to use the brakes make sense. If your original dealer doesn't take care of it, I would reach out to Porsche as really there is no way for you to wear the brakes out that fast not to mention you have documented the problem the day to drove back.

I'm happy to have an answer to the issue, as the scraping sound was very bothersome.

RWC is top notch so far in all respects.

They made a full video of my car inside and out before they even touched it.
They asked me to do a drive with a tech ride-along right off the bat, without me asking for it.

He immediately agreed there's a problem and once he put it on the lift he took me out there to show me the signs of wear, cracked pads, rotor hotspots, caliper paint discoloration from heat, etc.

My tech there is an EV person himself and HV certified tech. This is someone who fully understands EVs, charging curves, etc. Good to have should I need it in the future.

I've had full transparency about work and costs on every step. This is my shop, now.

You're not wrong that every other dealer so far has failed me. I've had quite a bad two months with Porsche and I'm pretty unhappy about all of it.

Taking notes about RWC. I have heard from few of my friends that bring their cars there because of the service and how good their techs are. I have been using SC purely from convenience so far.

While I hope I won't have to visit a dealer for at least 18 months (I have two rattles that might bring me in that weren't there on my test drive... might have been the shipping process that triggered them), I'm disappointed to hear about both Los Gatos and Stevens Creek as they are both my closest options.

The AZ dealer I got my car from is owned by the same company (Penske) and I had really good experience with the AZ Sales person, while the Finance Manager at Stevens Creek was enough of a tool enough that I bailed on a car I was interested in and considered going out of state/shipping.
