I have seen the "Take over steering" message in the past when using ALK, but today I got one without ALK or any assistance being engaged (at least I did not engage them). It was no the warning about not staying in the middle of the lane, which I occasionally got in the past when lanes are not clearly marked or there are patched cracks in asphalt which the Taycan interprets as lane marking, but this was the "take over steering" (identical to the ones I get in ALK if I don't apply any pressure for a while), not "stay in the lane" message. So now I'm not sure whether ALK engaged itself somehow?

Anyone else got that message without any ADAS engaged?

Yes I have had that many times. For me this has happened from the beginning. It can pop up at any time on all sorts of roads. But I have not had it pop up in city driving!

I have asked the service guys at several occasions but had no answer.

This is without engaging Innodrive or any other function ,ACC etc. All draining assistance off.

I get this from time to time, when using ACC. Never when driving the car all by myself.

Have not been able to identify a certain pattern (e.g. road condition, location, level of traffic) for these messages. One theory I had was that the car might think I'm drowsy or something, based on my steering input pattern. As far as I know, the Taycan J1.1 does not have any IR-tracing of the driver?

I have had the same warnings in both my Taycans.

Happy to hear any theories on what might be going on.

For me, its only when both of these are active:
  1. ACC active.
  2. ALK (active lane keep) active.
And one of these has happened:
  1. Car has crossed or gone very close to a line on the road (either the inside or dividing line) or,
  2. The car has decided that you are not allowing it be in the middle of the lane (usually because it's calculating it wrong). This especially happens if the lane is unusually wide, or on a rural road that has no dividing line marked and the car would like if you'd drive in the middle of the entire road and hit oncoming traffic!
For me reason 1 happens much more frequently than reason 2.

ACC + ALK though is still much better than ACC + Innodrive.

Yes, it's part of the assistance systems supposed to pay attention if you fall asleep.
Translated to reality, if they don't feel any input on the wheel for a while, that message will pop up and the seat belt will get gradually tighter also, until it will snap at some point in an attempt to wake you up.

@chun and @tigerbalm, The incident from OP was that it happens when none of the ADAS systems are active! That is also what I have experienced frequently.

There should be no reason for that message to occur at all when just driving the car.

Yes, and it works when ADAS is not active also. It's always on.
Its their safety system for when you fall asleep / pass out.

It's mandated by the EU. Not sure you can disable it - and you definitely can't disable it from MY25 forward, where I am pretty sure the car starts slowing down by itself also - but maybe I am confusing it with another VW group car.

Newer BMWs go as far as pulling on the right and stopping with emergency lights on, all by itself.
I don't think it's something bad, and if sensors are calibrated properly, it shouldn't turn on so often.

I didn’t think it was implemented in J1.1 ? It is an EU rule for sure, but every car review you see on YouTube the tester always turns off these warnings. It might not be possible to do in Porsche, but in other cars it is. I think some implementation requires it to take two steps to do, but most can be programmed in personal settings to turn it off. It will be necessary at every start though. I thought this systems came in in 2024?

This happens to me as well, on straight sections of highway.

Matt Farrah from Smoking Tire at one point reported the same thing and reported that his dealership fixed it with a “software update”. I’ve been meaning to bring it up with my service advisor.

Given I've never seen this popup without ADAS enabled, I wonder if it has to do with steering wheel pressure sensing. My Taycan has recently had repairs which required taking apart the entire dashboard, including taking the steering wheel off, so perhaps after putting it back together it's just less sensitive?

lol no; it only pulls on the seatbelt several times and puts a warning on the display, as posted by the thread owner.

But MY26 I believe does do more

But it definitely is not happening constantly, once every few blue moons - and definitely related to steering wheel pressure, as it happens mostly when I take my hands of the wheel for one reason or another 🤣

At least one of my hands was on the wheel when I saw this, probably both IIRC. I just saw the warning, no pulling on seat belts (that only happens when I start driving at some low speed threshold, same for my wife's Audi). It worried me because "take over steering" indicates to me that the car thought it was steering for me (i.e. "take over from whom?"). Maybe it's just something that got lost in translation, or some cost cutting by reusing a warning from ADAS for incapacitated driver warning.

Same here. And unrelated to ADAS or touching the wheel. Only factor is whether I’ve been moving the wheel.

I get it from time to time, without anything engaged, we only have ACC. Always find it happens if I keep a light hold of the wheel on a straight section of highway. I have also found if I ignore it the car will start to brake after a short bit.
