DISASTER HAS STRUCKI volunteer as a test case now!
I had only planned to leave the car for just 3 weeks at home. But a change of plans has now resulted in the car being left for 9 weeks until we return to our home in January. Since the weather forecast when we left, warned for some severe thunderstorms a few days later, I did not plug in the AC in the car, nor connect any12 volt trickle charger. And a mother of thunderstorms occurred and knocked out all electricity for a few hours as predicted.
I know for sure that the car still was online for 2 weeks and a bit, but I had cancelled my Porsche Connect and after that I have had no contact with the car.
So hopefully the updated software in the car will ensure that the 12 volt battery will stay charged. Else I need to follow the procedure with reserve key and booster etc.
Will let you know mid January!
Happy New Year!
So something is faulty on the car, as I said, I (and I am sure many others) have had zero problems leaving the car for a long time.So much for all the talk of the main traction battery recharging the 12 volt battery until 20 SoC etc. My car had about 65% charge when we left. And this time I could not plug in the 12 volt charger. Just was not possible. Since I no longer have any contact with the car without the Porsche Connect subscription, I could not try to preheat to activate the car during this time.
How far should the key be turned then. I can turn the key 90 degrees but after that it is a stop. I could not turn it any further with my cold hands and did not dare to use any extra aid or tool. I will leave that to the recovery guys so they can pay for it if it all goes belly up!The manual key lock is very, very stiff. When doing for the same reason as you I found I had to turn it really, really hard. It is interesting that so many owners have no problem and yet there is a significant number of us that do get this problem - my local Porsche centre is adamant that it is fixable by a software update, lets hope they are right.
Hope you get yours sorted on Monday.
Well if you have had no issues with leaving the car there clearly is something wrong. I have repeatedly asked the service guys if all updates have been implemented and that has been confirmed. So something is faulty on the car, as I said, I (and I am sure many others) have had zero problems leaving the car for a long time.
There is a recall/campaign for 12V battery sensor, but if your car was left for 8 weeks then it does not seem like that could have been applied, since it's newer than that? And it is also not applied OTA, requires a dealer visit.
There is now a recall for the 12V battery sensor, I wonder if that solves the issue?Well if you have had no issues with leaving the car there clearly is something wrong. I have repeatedly asked the service guys if all updates have been implemented and that has been confirmed.
That makes two then. You are correct - I remember it needing to be turned exactly the opposite way to the expected way.
Understood, and I tried it both ways. The emergency key has a quite small head and I could just not turn it any further with my by then frozen fingers. As stated here it seems it is quite hard to turn the last bit. I could not do it then and did not want to use any extra tools for fear of damaging anything. That makes two then.
@Scandinavian try turning the key the other way? Exactly the opposite of how you expect it to work?
