Quick question for fellow Taycan owners: I am a new 2026 4S owner: Is it normal to notice a fair bit of road noise in a Porsche Taycan, particularly on rougher UK road surfaces?

I’m not sure whether what I’m hearing is expected given the tyres and low profile, or if it’s something worth getting checked. Interested to hear others’ experiences before I start chasing ghosts at the dealer.

Thanks in advance 👍

I had a 2025 Taycan 4S loaner and road noise was noticeably louder and suspension was a bit rougher than my 2021 Taycan 4 CT.

I believe the 21" wheels and Michelin PS4 were on the 4S compared to my 20" wheels and Continental ProContact RX. I also have the insulated glass though which is also a factor in noise.

I have a 2021 RWD with 20" wheels and insulated glass; it's quieter than my wife's Lexus.

Bigger, wider wheels result in more road noise.

In two back to back test drives I thought the sound isolated glass option had a pretty big impact, but the two cars in question weren't the same: One was a 2024 GTS (no glass) and the other a 2024 GTS ST (which had the glass). I specifically remember talking to the sales person in both about the noise and difference.

Hard to say without more details!
What tires are you on? And what size.
Do you have the insulated glass?
What driving mode are you using?

It’s almost like there’s quite a lot of noise coming from the top of the window area, just wasn’t sure if this was a common issue or maybe something with mine

Insulated glass doesn't help with noise that is caused by the road which comes in through the wheel wells and/or body of the car. Even without insulated glass, the Taycan I'm sure is relatively quiet compared to any mass produced Lexus, that is with regard to noise created by its motion (road/wind).

Just reporting the facts, but thanks for your clarification!

Ah! Do you know if there was work performed on your window(s)?
I’m only asking because they just replaced mine. Driver side. Since the replacement there is a lot of noise coming from the top, not road noise but wind. Porsche luckily agreed it was not normal and has promised to fix it the next time I bring it in (march).
If I press the window down button for 0.5s the noise gets noticeably less, maybe give this a shot?

It depends on the road surface. On some its silky silent on others quite noisy. But that’s because the car itself is so quiet. Normally the road noise would be masked by the engine noise but not on an EV.

Normal I'd say due to tyre choice and rim size.

On smooth surfaces it is near enough silent.

Insulated glass will reduce some traffic noise where fitted but doesn't solve tyre roar through the footwells.

Try a 911 if you want to hear more tyre roar.

I have a 2021 RWD with 21” P Zeros which is very smooth & quiet. I do have the panoramic glass roof but was unaware the glass roof is quieter than the solid metal roof. Can anyone confirm this is true since I’ve never driven a Taycan with a steel roof. In fact I haven’t driven any Porsche Boxster, 911 or Taycan since 2021 that didn’t have a glass roof or a convertible top. My Taycan compared to any Porsche convertible I’ve owned is night & day quieter as you would expect but I thought the solid metal roof would be better insulated & quieter than the panoramic glass roof.

Window closed position possibly needs re-learned to ensure a good seal against the door frame. There is a procedure for doing this in the Owner’s Manual.
