I think this is important information for @Dabz. Whilst the implementation of the nav appears to stress the PCM in our charger-rich modern environment, no software can overcome a hardware fault inside the PCM itself. And computers inside cars are exposed to environmental stresses far greater than those of home computers, so we might forgive them if they occasionally bite the dust earlier. At which point they simply need replacing, as apparently in your case.

It is perhaps disappointing that the PCM appears to have no self-check. But when you consider how long your laptop takes over a memory check, it is perhaps understandable. (Many short journeys would finish before the self-check.) It would be a great tool to add under the engineering menu (two-finger salute).

Really hope that's the solution, and also really hope that it's not too much hard work to get my OPC to replace the PCM. They won't even look at the car until towards the end of March, and that's only for an update to 3885 (and looking at my LTE failure, and wing mirror creaking).

My guess is that after that visit I'm going to have to let the nav fail again, book back in (expecting another 2 month wait - I know they're already booking for end of April right now so it'll be end of May by the time I've completed this first visit) and see what happens.

I'm road tripping through France at the end of May but at this stage the car is failing so much on various things I'm considering taking our other car

Sadly, I expect you are correct. The OPC will update software first and only then consider a hardware replacement. On the face of it, an entirely reasonable policy. Although, if you are on 3882, we probably have zero expectations that an upgrade to 3885 will accomplish anything.

That said, to an extent the policy does surprise. It is not as though swapping out the PCM should take long. And it is also not like that old PCM is trash. Porsche would undoubtedly refurbish it such that swapping out the PCM should not cost the earth - for Porsche. Chances are your "new" PCM would be such a refurbished unit anyway.

My OPC were pretty dismissive of the 3885 update when I went in for the 12v issue and pretty much implied it was a waste of time and to wait for June when they have been informed there will be a solution.

They are as unimpressed with Porsche as us.

There are multiple cases of pcm replacement and still getting the issue.

Now hardware does not solve the issue.

From the german forum
For people still thinking it's the hardware and not how the software manages cache:

Sadly, official communication from Porsche is being removed from there for privacy reasons.

There was one other post here in this thread also mentioning he still has the issue even after replacement pcm.

So let’s stop the non-sense with “hardware” fixed the issue.

As I already stated, the devs in Cluj know the issue, budget is not yet allocated. No, I am not willing to leak the identity of someone just so a forum troll can agree that it is not a fake issue 😅

That being said, if you can get a newer pcm hardware, and are ok with services taking apart your car, then do it. Can’t be worse hardware than before, assuming they brake nothing else

That's interesting though, assume you've tested it navigating with charge planner on satellite view etc. in other words all the things that we think make it fall over?

The comment on the HUD is interesting... don't think I've seen that mentioned. Have people tried turning it off?

Yes, but to be honest, I only drove for approximately 300 kilometers. I’m cautious about being overly happy right now.

It is obvious that the world's best software cannot overcome faulty hardware, and there is no hardware out there that could not develop a fault. It is also clear from very diverging experiences - most recently the positive experience of @Jasper4S - that there isn't such a thing as "the issue". We all may suffer from the design of the original charge planner being overwhelmed by the many chargers about today. But on top of this, individuals clearly experience other issues. A new software in summer may well fix your issue and @Dabz will still be cursing his PCM. Until it is finally replaced and all is well all of a sudden.

Your certainties (about everything, it seems) are entirely misplaced.

Has anyone tried without LTE or with privacy mode enabled?

Now my LTE is broken I’m going to try the nav on my trip tomorrow (I’m also stuck on guest mode after a reset of the PCM and not able to log in) - I do the same trip often and it always crashes. Wonder if it’ll have any effect
