Chinese work extremely hard, average working hours is from 9AM-9PM, 6 days a week in high tech industry, that's 72 hours a week. It's part of their working culture, no one complaints, it's normal.
Is this cultural or a result of the lack of workers rights from the CCP?

They may not complain out of fear of what would happen if they did. 😳

Going back to the original question, and without reading now 14 pages of responses, what do people think of a Macan EV GTS or Turbo being an alternative to a Taycan? Four seats, Porsche brand cache, Porsche performance, etc.

Except there is no more model S, as the production is discontinued along with model X. So maybe if you buy it used
Yep, best bang for the buck on the used market. You can buy low mile 21–22 for around 52-55K that’s crazy deal.

Doesn’t seem like it solves any of the OP’s concerns.

The Macan is more for someone who needs a little more space and doesn’t mind sacrificing performance and style.

It also does a good job of answering the question- “is there such a thing as too fast?”

The acceleration of the Plaid seems to be useful for taking people on a ride to show off once. People don’t seem to keep the Plaids that long. Lots of them out there with 3+ owners already.

Macan has less room in the back than Taycan. I got Macan EV as loaner and with the same 2 car seats, our kids had less legroom on the back and didn't stop complaining. It must be perhaps that Taycan has smaller front seats.

Probably an unpopular opinion due to buck teeth, but the BMX iX is phenomenal. Traded in our R1S Quad Motor and couldn't be happier. We have the '25 xDrive50, but the M70 is even better. Have a '21 Taycan 4S, '22 Cayenne GTS, and '96 993. The iX although isn't nearly as precise at the Porsche's, the tech and comfort is the best of all our cars. Real-world 330 miles.

I’ve had the Macan twice as a loaner, each time for several days, including my regular drive over the mountains. It’s a very good car: composed, confident in bends, and quick when overtaking slower traffic. The slightly higher seating position is also an advantage on longer drives, especially on uneven roads.

The longer suspension travel helps on tarmac that’s been warped by frost and thaw cycles. The trade-off is a bit more body movement in corners (my loaners may not have had active suspension).

It also fits my electric mountain bike in the back, which the Taycan could not accommodate.

That said, I found myself missing the Taycan both times. The Macan feels more restrained and less sharp, which is natural for an SUV. For me, it doesn’t replace the sportier character of the Taycan.

I should see if the dealer has a Cayenne EV available for a test drive one of these days.

There lies the hurt in the whole situation - if willing to compromise reliability and service then I already have the right car. I'm just not sure what the option is when compromising on performance for example. Aston don't have an EV (to my knowledge), Audi's big EV is just the Taycan without the Porsche badge, BMWs hasn't had great feedback from friends of mine. Ferarri is a step too far for a daily drive and business use. Tesla I wouldn't touch with a barge pole because of Mr Musk, Polestar possibly but my neighbour in our holiday home has one and has spent 3 years telling me why it's better than my Taycan, so I'm not sure I could live with his smugness if I move from Taycan to Polestar.
Let him think he has a Porsche with his Polestar...lol why not
It's like people who tell you this or that about food/wine - fine for them if they don't taste a difference then they save money (and still true that sometimes something isn't worth it by itself and priced by rarity only).
Funny because I had the same dilemna as you : I needed to *buy* a car (not loan), wanted an EV, something different from my Xpeng G9 Perf (which was really good though), so the logical spec/perf ration choice should have been a 3Y old Tesla, but I refuse to give a $ to Musk, and the fancy new Chinese players (or even Xpeng's P7) won't be there & buyable as used until 3 or 4 years, plus driving the Taycan had a "wow" effect on me, so I dived in :)

I've been considering the new Cayenne EV for a while as I do a lot of mountain driving. Was invited by the local dealer to a launch show in the capital over here. Nice enough SUV, and I know the Cayenne handles remarkably well also on a track. Still no demonstration cars to try at the dealer.

My experience with the Taycan leaves me somewhat undecided. I value Porsche’s strengths as a driver-focused brand, but long-term reliability is also essential for me.

Has Porsche applied the lessons learned from the Taycan to deliver a significantly more robust and reliable Cayenne EV? I’m reluctant to find myself in the role of being an early testpilot again.
Cayenne EV is definitely on my list to try, my sales guy said "July", let's see until I drive it.
My only approach to not suffer too much in your case is to loan : less hassle, if it breaks down it's not exactly "your" problem, you'll get a replacement etc... of course it doesn't solve the trust issue, but I consider having problems isn't *that* bad, as long as you have people in front of you who can solve it efficiently

Re the Macan EV Turbo which we have (with every performance option including RWS), it is a precise, well handling, fine steering, a fun-to-drive vehicle. But it still is a Porsche and thus it has been in the shop a fair amount for both software and hardware issues. To be fair it was made the very first month of Macan EV’s, so it could have disproportionally have starting production issues, issues, that nicely continue to get further and further apart after each shop visit. Again and overall, It is fun to drive vehicle— the key factor in our vehicle ownership decisions.

Nonetheless, when its lease is over next year, for the following reasons we will instead be getting a 2027 GTS Sports Turismo (even though we are sure it too will have a few issues requiring shop fixing).

The Taycan looks so much cooler. It is lower and handles better.

For those who are thinking the Macan EV is a good small, enjoyable crossover, it is exactly that but do not buy one if you have infant-car seats or large teenagers — for while the back seat area is fine for occasional use even by two average sized adults, not much more room than that.

Prior to our Macan, we had a BMW iX M60. As I posted earlier in this thread, for those not wanting to go back and find/read it, it had not one software issue, nor one hardware issue. But while super fast in a straight line, its cornering, steering, seat and more were poor (though BMW recognized all these 3 major issues and major improvements in each area starting the 2026 iX).

The one vehicle which COULD be an alternative for us a year from us when our lease is over, might be a Cayenne EV turbo. But spec’d as we would want it, $190K would be a massive amount for it. It would be a super alternative for those who need a medium sized SUV (but we do not need that much space). The current Cayenne EV SUV version’s rear is candidly very unappealing to us — but maybe you and other might like it. Yet maybe a 4S Cayenne EV Coupe for $165K could be another vehicle for us to consider.

Just learned yesterday that the iX3 basic version (while superb on paper) is now going to experience a further two month delay entering into the U.S. due to its massive Euro sales; and our waiting for its M60 or M70 version would take it long past when our Macan’s lease is over.

Hope something in this FWIW post is helpful to someone here…

Every time I see one of these they remind me of Buc-ee’s.
