It's happened 3 times now. In all 3 instances once I brought the car to a complete stop I could power down and back on without really waiting any length of time and the car would power back up and appear healthy.

The first was something I can chalk up to gremlins.

The 2nd time was ~13 days ago and then it happened a 3rd time yesterday, so now I'm going to have to take it it in.

What should I know before I take it to the the dealership. I've got an ODB2 reader so I can pull codes, but any idea on what to look for would be great. For whatever reason I'm not entirely sure I trust the dealer, and I want to be armed with as much information as possible. I bought the car used from a porsche dealer it wasn't a certified pre-owned but I got the porsche extended warranty coverage.

Transmission is probably fucked; and would imagine it happens every now and again when switching from 1st to 2nd gear.

You should do nothing before you take it to the dealership... They can see the error codes. Send them pics/videos of the error on the dash, and then they are oblidged to check it.

It drove home after the this last incident, the dash currently looks fine when I power it up.

It's the transmission thunking as it downshifts 2-> 1
Would that mean driving it in sport+ mode would be recommended since it'll start in 1st and only downshift under deacceleration (without a load)?

in regular modes it starts in 2nd and only kicks down when you ask for power right?

You're saying kicking down under power is what is failing? All three times were at relatively low speeds, twice in bumper to bumper type traffic and once pulling away from a green light.

It is likely the front inverter. There is a current sensor in there that is failing. I would not clear the codes so the dealer has something to work with. I had this issue once. The dealer wouldn't do anything about until it happened again. So far it is behaving itself. I did have to have the rear motor replaced after showing the dealer all the codes I was seeing with my Foxwell i70BT scanner. Thankfully I had a warranty. Good luck.
