I've setup and deleted my Homelink settings multiple times and it’s at best intermittently successful in opening our garage door. The system asks to save a location. Am I to understand that the Homelink will automatically open the garage door based upon GPS coordinates like my Tesla did? If it's supposed to that, it never does. Any hints, tips, or tricks? I've watched multiple YouTube videos on the subject and have followed the instructions faithfully.

My wife just bought a Lexus and her dealer told her that if she had any issue setting up Homelink to let them know & they would send a tech to our home to do it free of charge. Porsche, you listing?

It does not automatically open the door based on location like Tesla does. It can, however, bring up the Homelink menu (with buttons to activate the open function) based on location. This is unfortunately the best you can do currently.

As for the efficacy of the Homelink transmitter itself, the range is not also great for me, but I also have the insulated glass so that might have an effect. For whatever reason, when coming home, I have to get quite close to the gate for the signal to reach despite the receiver being maybe 10 feet away. When I leave my garage parking space (shared apartment building) it works perfectly from a further distance (maybe about 20-30 feet) so I'm not sure what is going on there. I leave my physical remote opener in the car just in case.

Try this:

One small detail is important when programming any Homelink remote, whether on a car or copying the remote to another. THE REMOTE YOU ARE COPYING FROM, MUST HAVE FRESH BATTERIES !!! if the battery is not new, the range is decreased or may not work at all. This is because the frequencies vary slightly under voltage changes. This was explained to me by the European Homelink engineering department many years ago when I had problems with my first Homelink equipped Mercedes back in 1996 ! I have found that this advice has helped many people over the years that complained about range, including various head mechanics at different dealers ! I suggest you retry with fresh batteries. You can try an experiment: program a second memory for the same door with a fresh battery and test range for both.

I too have the Thermal and Noise Insulated glass option. As the the GPS, thanks for setting me straight with that. I do notice the Homelink button pop up on the PCM when I arrive in my driveway. I suppose now I can dedicate another function to the assignable button on the central display and use the PCM button for the garage. Hopefully, sometime in the not so distant future, Porsche puts out a software update so the Homelink is triggered automatically based upon the GPS.

FWIW, if you have two different transmitters at a stored Homelink location, you can't do what I'm about to suggest - best you can do is pull up the menu.

With one transmitter, you can assign one of the shortcut buttons and instead of opening the menu it will send the signal. The problem with opening the menu occurs when backing out. The menu pops up but is then obscured by the park assist screen, which doesn't go away immediately once you shift into F. So, it's an extra button press step to exit park assist, then press and hold the button to send the code, then exit the Homelink menu. I guess if you don't have park assist set to automatically activate, that extra step is avoided.

I suppose the moral of the story is that it's irrelevant to store the GPS data if you've assigned a shortcut button to the remote because what's the point? It doesn't do anything except prompt the PCM to display the Homelink button, which presumably has already been assigned to a shortcut. Kind of lame on Porsche’s part if you ask me.

I have the insulated glass and homelink works for my garage from the street at the next house down. 100+ ft if I’m estimating.

The regular transmitter, when used inside the car, would only work at around 15 ft, which meant we had to be right up on the door to use it. In other cars without insulated glass, the transmitter worked at the same distance as homelink.

So, my experience is that the insulated glass doesn’t affect homelink and the range is okay.

Unlike the Tesla where you just tap and it sends the signal, I have found that with the Taycan, especially since the last software update, you need to tap and hold for a second or two. Minor change but huge annoyance, especially when coming from a Tesla where they did it so well (auto open and close) to this where it only auto pops-up the Homelink menu based on GPS 50% of the time, and then I need to tap AND hold to get it to work...

Yup, no idea why its implemented this way, but it's stupid. You also can't do a full long press or else it thinks you're trying to do something else (delete the entry? I forget) so you really have to hold it somewhere between a tap and 2 seconds. I usually do about 1 second, sort of like tapping in slow motion.

I would re-program the Homelink with a remote with a new battery. I simply tap once and it works. This is both before and after the update.

I turned off the homelink and just use a remote, less buttons to push works on the first push at a longer range

The Homelink transmitter for the Taycan is behind the front bumper, as per my SA. Therefore insulated glass does not affect its range. Always remember to program with the original transmitter (the one that was paired first with the receiver) with fresh batteries.

4/2021 RWD. I just press/tap the cluster diamond like a normal button (i.e keyboard, elevator) when close to my garage and it works well. Same for closing. I found that the car cannot be more than ~20 ft. from the door to activate it.
