I would have thought that’s the death knell for a J2.1. Makes no sense introducing such a car in the current/ near future environment. Hope I’m wrong of course…..

There is the Apple model... just outsource the manufacturing and assembly there.

Based on previous timescales, we should be expecting a new "Gen-3" (or "J2.1") car by end of 2027 (MY28). There are lots of great deals around for used (CPO) cars, but what if you're fussy like me and want to spec a brand-new car? (one to keep for 6-8 years). Is it worth buying a new car right now, or should one be patient and wait for the next-generation model?

As I see it, the pros of each option are:-

1. Buy Now
• Lower pricing ("Black Edition" + Dealer discounts)
• Get to enjoy a great car now

2. Wait for Gen-3 (end of 2027?)
• Latest tech + range
• Improved resale value (down the line)

What do you think?
If you’re a first time buyer, personally, I would wait a couple of years for the next gen; especially if it has improved battery tech. I care more about design than the tech, so I’m eagerly awaiting what they have in store. Current car is great, I just can’t get past that plain facia they put on the rwd/4S models.

That said, if they end up combining Panamera and Taycan into one model [960] this may postpone a traditional next gen cycle. It would also make the Taycan one of the shortest run models they’ve built.

Wish they’d get out of china’s ass. European sports car manufacturers were doing fine servicing the EU/US before China became trendy.

If one has a level 2 charger in their garage, how many times does range beyond 250 real miles matter?

The reason is that Europe has no money, so they need to be realistic about which economies have folk who are able to spend money on new cars. Europe is going broke and every time things look ok, the orange fella does something daft to make life more miserable for us over here.

China is becoming one of the more affluent nations and social mobility means hundreds of millions are now able to buy life's pleasures like cars etc. It'll be India next too.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but a question lingers. Will PAG kill the Taycan altogether. With 16k units sold WW in 2025, the question begs to be asked. I have no knowledge of B/E sales (assuming PAG has already written off all its initial EV investment), but 16k units does not seem to make much sense going forward. With global supply around 220 days on 1/1/26, this is not great news. Can't wait to see Q1 sales data in April (sure happy I leased).
Geez, even the woeful Panamera sold 27k units WW in 2025. The 911 sold 51k in 2025. This is going to be interesting to watch but if I was a betting man (and I am not), I would be short Taycan continuing. I wonder if there is betting market on Kalshi, I may start betting.

IT would be a shame to toss such a beautiful automobile go into the trash. My guess is that it will at least become the foundation for another luxury EV.

If they announce this (perhaps today?) does that mean we should buy the car now, whilst it’s still available - or sit on our hands waiting for some future product?

Exactly. If you can be happy with it now for the services it provides… then it’s a great time to buy. If you’re a bit unsettled and haven’t hit that point in life to where you still want more from an automobile then wait it out. I still think EVs are alternative add on vehicles. Just make sure something else is in the fleet, so you have choices vs. feeling the burden of having 1 car do everything. That adds to the pressure of the car needing to be perfect in every aspect function and form.
