Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice regarding a tire wear issue on my Taycan.

I purchased the car about 6 months ago from a Porsche Center, and it was sold to me with “new tires”. Now I’ve noticed that one of the tires is completely worn on the inside, while the outside still has good tread.

This is only happening on one wheel.

From what I understand, this could point to:
  • Alignment issues (camber/toe)
  • Suspension component wear
  • Or possibly damage (although I haven’t hit anything noticeable)

What confuses me is that this happened in just 6 months, which seems very fast for a tire that was supposedly new.

My questions:
  1. Is this typical for a Taycan (inner wear on one side)?
  2. Could this realistically happen within 6 months under normal driving?
  3. Does this sound more like alignment, suspension, or prior existing issue?
  4. Has anyone had similar experiences with Porsche alignment settings?

I’m also discussing this with the dealer, but would appreciate independent opinions.

Thanks in advance 👍

Not normal, but inner wear is a known issue, caused by bad alignment.

Taycan needs to have its alignment done in its lowest setting, which many services - including porsche ones, do wrong.

There are several threads on the topic, use the search function

Thank you for your reply. Is this a warranty thing? The car is just 6 months old..

no, they will never treat it as warranty.

Tires are a wear and tear item, no matter what the source of the problem is.

If you can prove that the car had bad alignment, and it's a brand new car from the factory, they might agree to cover the cost of the tires.

I agree, if the car is new then it should have proper alignment. This looks like and alignment or tire defect issue. I would ask the dealer to do alignment check, usually only takes an hour and print the report out, but if it shows all ok then it is a tire defect, that is not uncommon. What is the tire size, brand, and date made? It is possible you got a tire that is too old by age and just dried out.

That looks like an entire section of the tire ripped off. More like a manufacturing defect than wear.

Reminds me of what happens with “retread” tires on tractor trailers.

Porsche Taycan Inner tire wear on one wheel after 6 months (sold with new tires) - alignment or issue? 1774801185020-jq

OP stated that he has driven the car6 months on ”new tyres”? But did not state the amount of miles? Those tyres look completely worn out across the tyre in my view. My first set of Summer tyres lasted close to 45,000 km I think and they had a lot more thread left.
’A nail and a pothole damage necessitated the renewal.

There is no thread in the middle of the tyre that I can see. But severe damage on the inner side yes.
Sounds very peculiar if these tyres should have been new OP got the car.

Or the tyre had been rethreaded

I have driven around 20.000 km on those tyres.

I guess that is why you stated ”new tyres” within situation mark ?
Unless the were a very cheap Chinese brand unsuitable for a Taycan.
I also assume you have not tracked the car or copied Ken Block with his Hoonigan

Yeah haha

Lmfao, nope

It’s on Pilot Sport 5s. Still waiting on the dealer’s response… no loaner either, and I had it towed after Porsche Assistance told me not to drive it anymore.

This car has already had a ton of issues: electric system faults, battery cells replaced, you name it. They used to provide loaners and towing all the time, but apparently I’ve used it so much they’ve basically cut me off. Honestly starting to hate the thing.

That’s a decent distance. Can you post pics of the other tires?

On my last car with summer tires (Mach E GTPE), mine were totally bald at 11k miles.

This pic was around 8k. Summer tires just don’t last long in heavy high powered EVs.

That's really poor.

If you've had a lot of issues, they should be treating you above average, to try and make up for all the problems encounteted and hassle you've had to put up with.
Call it a gesture of goodwill.
Not do the opposite.

Just cutting you off because of so many issues/visits is ridiculous.

Is the car still in warranty?

Inner tire wear is NOT an issue, it is how the suspension is designed....on all Porsches not just Taycan. It is a part of the steering/handling set-up. However, from left to right the wear should be fairly close to each other. This can be dialed out via an alignment service but it comes at the expense of performance.

Interestingly, if you want more even tires wear more evenly, you simply need to drive more aggressively in the turns 😏

As @RAHRCR says wear on the inner shoulder of the tyres is normal. Also, you did well to get 20,000km on a set of PS5s - they're not known to be hard-wearing (which is how they provide the grip - you can't have both!). Buy new tyres and move on.
