I’ve noticed in several short road trips recently that when I navigate to a public charger and the battery temp is quite low (it was 40F in the most recent trip I’m referencing) that shortly after I started the navigation the battery status will say “Battery Prepared for Charging” yet the temp has not warmed. Isn’t the battery temp getting into the sweet-spot-range of 80s and 90s or so the primary thing that says it’s prepared for charging?

The facelift has a 2.4x more powerful battery heater and starting at 60F the charging time quoted is 18 minutes (16 minutes in ideal conditions).

So, is what I have experienced in my J1.2 what you’d expect? I’d assume that “Battery Prepared for Charging” would indicate the battery warmed BEFORE getting to the charging station, yet I was still showing 40F when I plugged in. Similar to other times when the battery temp was below the sweet-range. Admittedly, once charging got going, say 10 mins in, the battery did warm up, of course.

Ideal is 86F for J1.1, but one had to start navigation maybe 15 or 20 minutes before arrival to allow time for warm up.

This explains it with data to support the fact that J1.2 has lower starting temp for optimal charging.

Also, lucky you J1.2 owners you have this new gauge that we J1.1 owners only can dream of.
The car tells you if the battery is in ideal condition for charging - 3 o'clock area on the left tube.
Then if the car does not get the max power from the charger it can take - 9 o'clock area on the left tube, it will issue a blame the charger message. This is just awesome!

Thx for the replies. I have been looking at the gauge and thinking that ”battery is prepared for charging” meant that the temp would be in that 3 o’clock range before I plugged in, but it wasn’t—quite a bit lower. But, if it is working as designed, maybe the idea is that it knows it will get there quickly once charging starts so doesn’t try to warm it beforehand and use all that energy.
