Picked up my ‘23 ST GTS about one year ago. I love the car — when it drives.

Since owning it I’ve had:
- broken heater
- broken 22kwh charging port, car towed
- sudden 12v battery issue, car towed
- unexplained “electrical system fault”, car towed (dealer tested for a week, could not find anything)

And this morning I had the “electrical system fault” again while driving home. Now the car won’t open/start. So calling the dealer for a tow again…

My wife at this point is telling me that she will not drive this car again and we should sell it. I’m almost there myself. We come from Toyota/Lexus and have literally never had car issues in the past. This experience has been.. different.

I’m curious: am I just unlucky? Did I buy a lemon? Or is this what Taycan ownership looks like?

Selling right now would probably be a bad idea financially, and I’m not expecting Porsche will be giving me any discounts for my experience. Have people been able to swap their cars for a jI 1.2 with Porsche (at a premium I suppose)?

Thanks!

Standard taycan ownership for many, sadly.

The 22kw charging port is discontinued, since it was a piece of shit, and was replaced with the standard 11kw, so I assume you got some compensation.

Normal to be towed 5 times for different issues in as many months? Absolutely not.

This just sounds like bad luck. Especially since the problems have nothing to do with each other.

Lemons are usually when you have the SAME problem that keeps popping up and can’t be fixed. Then I would be more worried.

Sorry about the bad luck. Hopefully they fix this issue then you’re good for a long time. I don’t blame your wife for thinking that. I would be wondering the same.

Porsche will fix it (warranty) but unlikely any special discount. The dealer may work with you, but they also many not want your “troublesome trade in” any more than you do right now.

Mine was replaced early this year when there was still stock. So got a brand new piece of shit 22kwh charger aka time bomb.

Yup. This is a real downside of the dealers being independent outfits, rather and part of Porsche

I would definitely not call it normal, and my wife would be unhappy as well, and deservedly so.

I would discuss this with your dealer - they should give you an explanation. It helps to be stern with Porsche. I can not believe they would say it’s normal, and bad luck stops after 3-4 repairs in a year imho. They should keep looking until the errors are explained or at least take a guess and repair at least something…

What dealer is yours and how many km ridden? Did you get a history of the repairs?
Dealer should have it, and it they’re not willing to provide it there are other ways (ct14?).

Wel mooie kleur!

Yes and no. Porsche corporate wouldn’t necessarily give you a deal either, they would just say “that’s what the warranty covers, repairing the problems.”

This was my experience with the Gen 1 too ! Heater replacement, unable to charge due to charge port cover not opening and closing - multiple times despite replacement, battery electrical inspection required, unable to charge, 12v failure multiple times when parked.

Gen 1.2 not had a single fault in over 1 year and much better car.

Unlucky to have that many problems. The 22kw charger is faulty by design and currently being replaced with 11kw but I did read somewhere that they maybe reintroduce it. The issue was down to one component but it is a sealed box and the only way to get inside is to cut it open.

I had a 2023 4S CT for two years without a single breakdown. The heater got replaced in a recall campaign and while it was in for a service so I dodged that bullet. Other recall campaigns for brake hoses and battery pressure test. I swapped it for a J1.2 4S ST in November 2024 just before the battery recall campaigns.
The new one needed a new hv charger before it was delivered and I needed both electric charging door modules replaced last January as one kept jamming half open, small inconvenience but nice Cayenne hybrid loaner for a few days.
I think the majority of people have a reasonably good experience but still too many experiencing too many issues.
Love the extra range and power of the J1.2 and the cost to change after tax allowances wasn't too bad given the spec on the new one was much higher

Had my 2023 GTS ST from new and never broke down once for anything.

Had campaign work performed when required including the heater (which was working fine).

22kW AC is a known bug bear and some owners have had it replaced 4 times.

A lot of bad luck I'd say but the car is now "jinxed". Depreciation will be cruel too.

This is certainly not common for a 2023 model but the issues you are having are all well known for J1.1 generation in general but handled under warranty with long shop times and a lot of frustration. The car generates a lot of data that can be gathered and analyzed on your own for faults, but for the dealer not being able to give you an answer for the electrical fault is unacceptable.

My advice if you want to get ahead of the issues especially with HV battery then get yourself an OBD reader with CarScannner app and look at the data yourself. I can help you with step by step if you decide to do so.

Thanks I just ordered one of these. Good tip! I’ll search the forum first, if I get stuck I’ll ask for help!
