The roads in the SE UK are just terrible now. 4 new tyres at the end of November and now a pinch split from an unavoidable pothole late Sunday afternoon… bollocks.. the new driving tax..

I feel for you mate and I agree, it is getting annoying. It is the winter frustration of driving UK roads. And pretty much from November through March I only drive my defender. I have hit hard several potholes and only got away because of the extra steel reinforcement of the AT Tyres 🤣.
You can’t see them, either too wet or too dark…

Not just the SE, its everywhere.

Lots of issues round here (rural roads) are due to flooding because the council no longer Keep the grids/gullies clear.
Once it floods / freezes the road surface disintegrates and then potholes form.

I sent an email to our council last summer with a picture of a typical local grid, asking if they cant be bothered to unblock them in winter, is there any chance they could at least mow them in summer.

Yeah the 21" have not enough tyre to survive the potholes unfortunately. If your roads are so bad that you have issues that often consider switching to 20".

I'd managed to avoid damage for 3 years on my 20" wheels, but just before Christmas on a rough country lane ran through a large puddle with such a huge bang that I assume it was potholed. I carried on as the car surprisingly felt normal, but a few miles later when I got on a smoother surface the vibration was apparent and became serious around 60mph. 2 wheels buckled beyond repair, though to my amazement both tyres were undamaged and are now on the replacement wheels. I since discovered that my Porsche centre had incorrectly set the PCM to all-season when they fitted my winter tyre/wheel set, so the tyres had been underinflated- maybe that saved them (and maybe they'd have taken the damage instead of the wheels if they'd been correctly inflated).

I logged a pothole with my local council last week after crashing heavily in it. "Don't worry" they said " we're fixing this tomorrow". They've dumped half a bucket of pre-mix in it, and it's still about 4" deep, usually filled with water. I logged again and they insist it's "fixed".

If the solution to huge holes is a half-bag of pre-mix thrown in a muddy puddle while it's raining then all our tyres are doomed.
