OK, so it is a mass damper. That’s what I thought, because it reminded me of the similar parts on Nismo cars with the same names which look like suspension dampers installed across the body instead of in the struts.

It’s probably there to quiet down the vibration amplification effect of the hatch, and if there are two separate parts, they probably dampen at different frequencies.

Pity, I was hoping for a shaped charge that would annihilate tailgaters…

What are these orange things in the CT hatch? Are they just weights to balance the hatch? Or do they have some additional function?

Here is where they are with the whole hatch exposed.

May I ask why the liner is removed?

Very cool and informative thread. I already installed an Escort Max360 and bought their add-on M2 camera which was a super fast install. No rear camera, though.

I used to love taking my new toys apart when i was a kid. I realised after a couple of years that i could never get them back together again properly! Probably a valuable life lesson for me at least!

Putting it back together, without leftover parts, is definitely a key part of this process. That's why I take a lot of pictures as I take it apart, so I can put it back together the way it was. Today there is also the internet, where people share how to take things apart and put them back together. There was a very useful thing my father told me since I was young - "The only people who don't break anything are people who don't do anything", I've passed this onto my kids too. If you break something, you learn how not to do it again and hopefully how to fix it.

I wonder whether you'd notice if you left them off.

Not really inclined to try, as I figured Porsche engineers put it there for a reason. However, if you want to, it's 10 minute job with a pry tool, Torx screw driver, and a 10mm socket wrench.
