After seeing the price of the Porsche OEM bike rack decided to look for an alternative. Bought the bars from a guy on this forum in the US and the bike rack from 1UP in the US. Cost 1/4 of the Porsche one - might buy a light bar off Amazon for £50 for longer journeys but a great alternative - really solid and easy to install.

looks good, i saw the original post on the build of the rack. Do you have room for multiple (2, 3?) bikes on that set up?

I can fit two but with the second installed I can’t open the boot with the bikes on. The bars I bought were from the original build, I think they continue to make in batches when there is demand.

Do you need the bike rack preparation option to use that rack?

Is this legal? Here in the Netherlands your plate needs to be visible and you need all lights on the rack itself. I have the OEM rack and even got a certificate that my country approved it and need to have it in the car while using the rack.

In the UK the plate needs to visible, which it is. I am still going to buy a light/numberplate fitting which I can bolt to the rack.

Fitted a generic light board from Amazon - for those who have a similar set up, I used the bolts which came with the UP bike rack and used in the same way, just drilled holes in the top of the light board metal frame. It’s light, sturdy, light and easy to remove. Would be difficult to steal the rack unless you have the UP tool to remove the bolts. The UP bike rack in itself is very good and probably the easiest bike rack I have ever used.

i have literally just taken delivery of the exact same system from Willy in the US; very impressed with the quality of the machined bars, the 1UP racks and all of the ancillaries, great deal! Can you share which light board you obtained and do you have any close up shots of the mounting? Presume you mounted directly to one of the 1UP racks?

basically looking for the easiest system to use given it will always be dismantled after use...

thanks
