What kind of wear is normal on a turbo s with PCCB’s? I’ve look at a few Turbo S’s with around 10k miles and seeing them show 7-8 MM on front and back. Is this normal? What is the cost to just replace the pads and when should you?

From what I’ve searched most people are saying when new they are 10 MM and carbon ceramics could go 100k miles without issues.

with Taycan and regeneration normal driving is very light wear on the brake pads…in fact PCCB"s are largely pointless on an EV

pad replacement is mostly parts costs + some light labor - unless the vehicle has ben tracked _A LOT_ rotors are effectively lifetime unless they've been damaged. If PCCB rotors do need to be replaced they are wicked expensive - seriously like $30k in parts costs for front/rear rotors - but it's very hard to envision that happening due to wear on Taycan unless is heavily tracked.

ask a dealer service manager what new pad depth is - if pads are worn in 10k miles that would mean in my opinion the car has been driven very very hard and probably the pad wear is mostly from nanny/computer interventions…dealer should also "know" what pad depth they are seeing on other Taycan's after "x" miles for comparison. Talk to the service manager of a dealership for data.

the expectation is that you swap pads for "age" not wear according to Porsche (6 years if I remember correctly) on Taycan due to heavy regeneration handling 90% of braking according to Porsche's own numbers…

for a deep dive on PCCB rotor wear you can review this thread for my 90% track miles 911 GT3 w/PCCB's - 4-6 pad swaps and then rotors is reasonable wear on a mostly/90% track usage vehicle - street use should not cause _ANY_ rotor effective PCCB rotor wear _EVER_ on a gas Porsche - with regeneration on an EV the rotors are effectively life time…https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3...-wear-data-sharedo90-tracked-gt3-991-2-a.html

Do not even worry about it, especially if your ownership horizon is 2-4 years as CCBs on modern street car are lifetime parts. Pads may need a change when it wears to min, maybe around 100k miles.

Pads set is less than $1k, no big deal.

It's also inaccurate to compare ceramic brake wear from another car such as a Ferrari, especially if it's from a different generation. Generation 1 (think 2003-10 cars) ceramics wore down differently and needed earlier pad changes.

IMO, unknown is the long term wear on PSCBs, which are $6k rotor changes.

found an old service invoice and inspection sheet from my 2020 Taycan Turbo - when it was in for service with local porsche dealers

pads at 7 mm (or greater) is considered "good/green" - virtually no wear…this was my pad wear at 24k miles and after two track days @ laguna seca…

I understand that PCCB pads should be replaced at 50% c. 5mm rather than running them down to nothing.

agreed 30% is low - 40% is ok - 50% is a bit early but never hurts…
